HF Habs: Flames or Panthers 1st Round Pick 2025: Part II

San Jose, Chicago, Nashville, Buffalo, Montréal, Anaheim, Seattle will finish under the Flames. That is 7 teams. You can also think of Utah, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. They are far from being guaranteed of picking top 10. Actually we are having one of the best scenario possible.
Calgary is one of the worst teams in the league roster wise. Wolf has been carrying them all season long.

I hope I’m wrong and they can pile up some more points but I really believe they are going to drop rapidly affer the break.

I have a hard time following you guys. The Flames have 60 points in 55 games, perfect scenario because we want them to finish at 0.500 (22 points in 27 games).

I don't want them at 65 points and be a buyer. I don't want them at 55 neither (teams 7-11 are at 55) and sell.

It is going to come down to how Utah, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia & St. Louis all perform post-break if they all suck along with Calgary then it doesn't matter.

It's possible all of CBJ, NYR, NYI and Boston pass Calgary leaving Calgary either 11th or 12th depending on Montreal's own pick situation.

Philadelphia looks to be selling, maybe (Laughton, Risto).

I don’t think Pens are going to do much of anything.

Blues have a much easier schedule than Calgary but also may sell.

Utah has talked about adding but who knows.

It's top 10 protected. If CGY win the lottery, the pick would become top 10 and trigger the clause
Ok I just read it again, I was stuck to the B.2 part, which will not be the case of course
if Panthers 2025 first does not transfer to Flames then (1) if Flames 2025 first is #1 overall then Canadiens receive Flames 2025 third and more favorable of Flames, Panthers 2026 firsts; or (2) if Flames 2025 first is #2-10 then Canadiens receive Flames 2025 first

I'm more worried about Calgary making the playoffs than finishing top-10, their only competition is Vancouver who could still shake up their roster a ton

Apparantly Calgary have a really tough schedule coming up and a lot of it is on the road, where they haven't been nearly as good as they have at home. That's the worry about them falling in the standings...

Utah is only 3 points behind them and St. Louis is 5 points behind. So there are other teams chasing them for the playoff spot. And if they don't make the playoffs, every team in the east except Buffalo is within 5 points of them. So if they don't do well down the stretch and don't make the playoffs, there's a real chance they finish bottom 10.

it's pretty crazy how close they are to the playoffs and to bottom 10 at the same time.

Same as the Habs

I wouldn't be surprised if Guhle and Heineman were healthy if we were still in or close to a playoff spot.

We beat Vegas, Florida, Tampa, and a lot of good teams during the close to one quarter of the season that we were the best team in the league.
