HF Habs: Flames or Panthers 1st Round Pick 2025: Part II

What we want and what we get will be two different things. However, Flames could slip. So can the Habs. Hard to say where these two teams land.

I know. A guy can hope. Having Calgary pick being 11th would be huge for us. If we can draft a guy like Sam Dickinson this year, our rebuild will be solid for the next 15 years.

Calgary is being stubborn, but i just can't see them finish ahead of the Canucks, and I think there's only room for one of them to make the playoffs.

This is working out pretty darn well for montreal so far in terms of maximizing on the conditions of that draft pick.

Personally, my strategy would be to draft a Grade A with both picks and it's a potential piece we can use in trades to add a piece on our roster now. Not a rental player but someone we can insert with term and team control.

My personal focus is reinforcing the 7/8 year spread between Suzuki and Demidov. Not like I will ignore guys younger than Demidov but the main focus is that 7 or 8 year spread.

We have to draft BPA's. Positional needs should not be our targets IMO.

Yup, Didn't work out well for us when we had the Panthers unprotected 1st a few years ago but maybe it does this time around. A pick from 11-16 is much better than 25+

Flames are just 5 points away from being in a position to pick in the top 10 with 39 games to go.
It's way too early to wish for them to start losing games.

They've got to stay in the playoff picture at least until the deadline.
Otherwise they might be tempted to sell guys like Andersson and Kadri. That would mean a guaranteed top 10 pick.

Who knows, that Canucks team is a disaster this year. Injuries left and right, putrid defense and who knows what’s happening in that locker room.

They have the talent to beat Calgary for that last playoff spot but... will be interesting.

Yikes Sam Dickenson are you sure. What do we need another LD for?
And why this one I don't like Sam that much he certainly hasn't been a clutch player in the Mem Cup or in the WJHC.

It will come down to the last game of the season....CGY will be sitting in 11th but fall to 9th if they lose...
MGMT will make the coach start the back-up and sit the vets in hopes of securing a better pick.
Will be the most watched CGY game by Habs fans since the 1989 playoffs

And why this one I don't like Sam that much he certainly hasn't been a clutch player in the Mem Cup or in the WJHC.

Has talking about drafting player dropping out of the top 10 like Sam Dickinson. He has in the top 10 in multiple list. Kinda like Hage would probably go up in ranking after this season or like Lane Hutson.

Our rebuild will be very solid if Kent can find another diamond in this year draft.
