I would move Ritchie up into the top six to give him a chance to build on his last game. Bunting is a good soldier and a pest, but he's not cutting it in that role.

Looks like the Flames are going with Darth Vader in net tonight. Hopefully the force is with them and the can take advantage of it.

It seems like every time they play the Flames, their goalie stands on their head. They need to finish tonight, especially Matthews.

No real surprise there. Yeah, Engvall can go at any time but the real crime is Holl over Dermott.

Yeah I mean they got a shutout last game with Holl in so I guess I can't really complain... I just lost faith in him.

I hope they both do well obviously because I want all Leaf players to excel, but to me Holl is what he is... he looks even slower now. I don't get that at all. Dude looks gassed everytime he's on the ice.

Maybe his conditioning is off from battling with whatever bumps and bruises he had early in the season.

Either way him and Dermott both make bonehead plays sometimes but Dermott to me is a much better skater and can make a decent first pass. Dermott takes the odd dumb penalty but so does Holl. I take Dermott any day before Holl. Regardless I still hope he has a great game tonight... I just don't expect it.

Too bad the Cap, or they could at least give some other players a look.

This is the right choice here. A good but tired flames team.. use Campbell.

Try your backup in Buffalo who is the weaker team anyway.

still bugs me that we started Hutch in the first game of the back to back last time. I don't care the opponent really play the starter in game 1. Hutch ended up sucking in very winnable game 1 and then the whole team sucked in game 2 making Campbell irrelevant. And then we had to play a red-hot Carolina team and suddenly we were in a tailspin and Leafs Nation shat themselves.

I think the depth scoring will pickup, the slow start to the season makes it look a lot worse. They've been getting their chances lately. The fourth line especially has been snake bitten.

I think there's maybe 5 guys on the entire team that are scoring at even their expected level, nobody scoring higher, and everyone else lower - depth or otherwise.

Yeah I'll admit at the time I didn't mind it so I don't mind eating crow. However when a lot of fans went into a tail spin along with the team I tried to stay optimistic. It's always 15 or so games in to know. I'm feeling good about them now for the most part. They have faults of course... but I think most people will agree it's all about round 1 and building towards that so they're ready to go... finally... hopefully... this time.

I don't know about that...the guy had 3-4 good shifts after 10 games, not sure he earned a promotion based on that.
Let him know he need to have 5-6 good games in a row and than maybe has a chance to play in the Top 6

On paper that Ritchie-Spezza-Simmonds line should be a productive depth line (and beastly physical too)....and tbh by eye test they seem to create plenty of chances. Hopefully a dose of confidence for Ritchie gives them a bit more finishing touch now.

It bugs me how great that PP pass from Ritchie looked last game. Says as much about our mediocre PP as about the pass of course.

That's legit the best PP chance we've had all year.

That's exactly why I thought Mitch would look so good in the bumper spot - that kind of no look pass to a wide open willy or auston should happen all the time with Mitch in the middle.

Yes, but collectively, that line is also painfully slow to watch. I liked the 4th line better with Engvall at LW.

I would like to see this for a few games:

Ritchie-Matthews-Marner
Kerfoot-Tavares-Nylander
Bunting-Kampf-Kase
Engvall-Spezza-Simmonds

Hey if they were fast they'd be a pretty great line. As it is they should be a good depth line.

Happy to have Campbell get the start here. Put that best foot forward (against a tired team to boot) and we'll see what tomorrow brings in the back half of the B2B.

Flames lines here are from last night....they'll likely be completely shuffled tonight tho:
