That feels a bit harsh. The PP goal was probably saveable, but it was a shot from inside and below the face off dots off of a royal road pass. That’s got to be considered high danger in the numbers, and to my eyes, looked like a damn hard shot to save. The deflection was just stupid and I don’t even want to watch it again to see if he was over commiting to the orginal shot 😂
So both goals were not great. His other games he has been better. So his high standards makes me expect more from him.
The lack of offense was also bad, but, if he stops those we win a low scoring game.

The only thing i can think of is physological. When one would normally not admit.

They are not as worried to attack and to gamble if Helly is in net.

They can play the system, no disrespect to Comrie but they might (the team) focuses more on helping him — preventive. And then it doesn’t help the team as that is not their strength.

Just MPO

Anyways go Jets GO
Cup or bust!!!!

Stanley needs to play a quiet game not over think not over do. He gets in trouble when he tries to do to much. When he uses his frame and stick he can play, when he chases he gets in trouble

Didn't it ring off the post?
Yeah, but it’s short side.

Call me old school but I feel like an NHL goalie - assuming they’re properly set - should never get beat short side, especially when it’s a right handed shooter on the right side (or vice versa).

Watching the replay, it looks like Comrie was a bit slow tracking the cross ice pass and was too late getting his angle correct when Kuzmenko released it.

You might be onto something. Still a small sample size so we will see how it plays out.

Stan over commits first of all... this is a result of his footspeed - he overcompensates and basically plays man coverage on the pk instead of his zone

Our pk is based on aggressive gap control... stan just consistently backs up too much and doesnt have the footspeed to challenge - thats never going to change

Yes its a nice pass but by no means a play of the week
imo that speaks to a larger problem in this particular case it’s on goalie.

Okay, otherworldly may be over selling it lol

Point being, he found a seam while being appropriately pressured and as a result earned he teammate a good look. It could have been less good if Stan was more agile, sure, but there was also other blame to go around.

I’m not sure I particularly agree or see the relevance of the first two paragraphs in this scenario. Not sure what he over commits to, then the rest is a bit more generic which I guess I tend to broadly agree with but isn’t as applicable here imo.

If Comrie stops that, Stanley's mistake is ignored and repeated in another game. Just because the goalie should've had it doesn't mean there aren't other issues to look at.
Yep I said it spoke to a larger issue, but it doesn’t make Comrie blameless he did not, not stop it to teach a lesson. Also mistake is noted by coach either way I’m sure it’s just not talked bout here. As I’m sure they spend hours breaking down film not watch it once like we do.

Stan overcommits to the guy closest to him - rather than staying in his position... so he has a real tendency to 'drift' - I think a big part of it is that he doesn't have the speed to close so if he feels he's got a guy to cover, he focuses on that...

One of our guys got picked at the blue line so that did open things up - but again, we want this team to win the cup so being 'fine' isn't actually fine...

You look at the offensive zone tonight - Stan was super passive with loose pucks and we did give up momentum several times because of that - but he is in position for their breakout... he just doesn't ever 'save' a play at the blue line. Same as shot blocking - he does it as best he can but he's too slow to pressure the shooter... its just Nate Beaulieu all over again.

He IS playing within his capabilities and reading plays as well as he can... but he'll get destroyed in the playoffs.

Ehlers was great tonight. If he could finish he would have had a couple. So many great opportunities he created for himself.
If Ehlers converts that breakaway goal, I fully believe this game would have turned into a blowout for the Jets...

You'll have to let everyone know how a dman should play the gap on a low to high pass from his off side on the PK

I'm hoping you're being sarcastic, but with the anti-stanley bias around here and no emoji, I can't be sure
It looked to me earlier in the play he was too far to his right and had to scramble back to his left. However, I’m far from an expert on the matter so maybe he as doing his job an Lowry getting boxed out caused the scoring chance.

After re-watchig it, I think it might actually have been a perfectly executed set play (little pick and all on Lowry).

The whole point of a 5-4 is to exploit the man advantage and the Flames just did a really good job on the play

Not every goal needs to be someone's fault. Sure, Stan could have stepped up into the slot... but if comrie makes the save and the guy who Stan left to do that bangs in the rebound, then is that his fault too?

Stan has f***ed up plenty this year that has led to goals but I just don't think that's one of them

Basically the point I was trying to make here... if you watch Stan, he gravitates to the nearest player - which in itself is not a bad thing... but its not our PK system - our penalty killers are constantly pressuring the shooter and cutting off lanes

Yup, its not fully Stans fault and maybe no one stops that - but he drifts to the right of the slot following his 'guy' and leaves that side completely open - if you have footspeed, you can recover and pressure the shooter WHILE cutting off the passing lane...

Stan chooses to block early because he can't close the gap. Similar reason why his back is to the play so often - he chooses a player to cover so he knows he's doing something and not getting lost... basically Stan plays man coverage in our zone defence.

Watch Samberg and Pionk - they rarely get caught on the same side, Samberg is great at knowing when to let his man go and cover the next gap. Thought he played great last night.
