HF Habs: Flames 1st Round Pick 2025

Of course that'd be the ideal scenario, but what are the probabilities of that happening?

I'm just not being too greedy here. I'd rather have the 15th or 16th pick than take the chance of ending up with the Florida pick.

The Flames have the control over their team, not the Habs.
What do you think they will do if they are 11th at the TDL or after?
Fight to stay out of the bottom 10?

Like i wrote on another thread, if Calgary is out of playoffs picture before the trade deadline, they will likely be sellers.
There were reports of Andersson and Kadri being available last summer and it popped up again today. Speculations with the Stars.

If they trade Andersson, they will take a fall in the standings.

The way i see it, they need to win as often as possible to stay in the race if we want to keep the hope of getting their pick.

I'm assuming the Flames pick is lottery protected? Low chance a team from 11-15 wins the lottery but it could happen.

It's certainly possible. Flames could slip down a lot or stay where they are at. Who the hell knows how this plays out.

I think there is a better chance we are able to trade from 20 to 10-12 vs trading from 10-12 into the top 10. Depends on the talent but not many teams trade top 10 picks. 10-20 is more movement. I'm not worried about it but hopefully we get lucky.
 
The way I look at Calgary pick is from the bottom.

These are the teams I think will/should 100% finish below Calgary in the standings

Chicago
SJ
Anaheim
CBJ

That's 4

Then these Teams should be fighting with Calgary all year

MTL
Buffalo
Detroit
Ottawa
NYI
Utah
Seattle
Philly
STL
Pittsburgh
Cgy

That's 11

so CGY could potentially finish between 5-15, so if we eliminate the low end and the high end. I would say CGY probably will finish anywhere between 8-12

I think we shouldn't expect Cgy's pick this year so I won't be disappointed if we miss out on the pick.

God I'd nut to the extreme if Calgary handed us pick 11 or 12.

30 games in, Calgary looks like a very mid team - their record matching reasonably with their analytics. They are what they appear to be in the standings.

I think there's a really good chance we get that pick in the 11th-15th range. They'll miss the playoffs, but I don't think they're going to slip too far down.

You Forgot Nashville... They are the worst team in the league. Far worse then Chicago or San Jose. They have the lowest win in regular time. Also Columbus has been playing great. Unless they collapse completely, they should be drafting around 7-12.

oops thought I had them in so that makes it 12 then. anywhere from 5-16

Yeah the pick are lottery protected. It will be the most hearthbreaking moment of 2025. We are all celebrating Calgary finishing 11th. Just to have Calgary win the lottery and our own pick dropping 1 rank in the ranking! :laugh:

Calgary will be unloading Kadri and Andersson, they are assured to finish in the bottom 10 this year.

No point worrying about it, we have no control, just a point of interest and hopefully luck is with us. For sure teams hold onto the top 10 picks, but we have been drafting pretty well so I'd be happy as heck if we ended up with a mid teen pick at the draft.

too early to say, there are currently 11 teams under .500, so it will likely take a few months before we really see how this will shake out. Lots of shit teams, the Flames may not be among the worse 10. Without counting the Flames there are about 14 teams that I wouldn't count on doing shit.

The fact we were beyond horse shit in October and were marginally above .500 in November and December, and somehow within striking distance of the wild card shows just how much parity there is, in that there's a shit load of bad teams who can lose any given night.

HFCanucks have a guy on their boards who listens to a bunch of hockey interviews and summarize them for Nucks fan to keep up with all the insider stuff (username is Vector). He posted his pointers for today, His last post an hour ago was a summary of Darren Dreger's interview with Sekeres & Price. Several teams mentioned, but this part I thought was interesting/relevant to the Flames pick. I’m just gonna copy/paste here.

Calgary Flames :

  • Will remain patient
  • Flames management believed the team would come back down to earth
  • Goaltending covered up some holes
  • Wait & see with them
  • Doesn’t see a fire sale anytime soon if at all

Toronto is apparently interested. There would need to be retention of course. Kadri has been mostly terrible in Calgary. He's 34 & has 4 more years left on his contract. They might improve without him.

Andersson would be a huge loss if they move him.

If they are moving Andersson, we need to be in on it.. I think we'd have the inside track too because if they feel that 1st rounder is gonna hit in the 11-13 range, they might feel better about getting that pick back in an Andersson trade vs a late 1st from a contender.

Randersson is the big fish we should be acquiring assets to trade for
