HF Habs: Flames 1st Round Pick 2025

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Those players would help them at least be a bubble team short term Or get into the playoffs. But if they sell off other players, they should finish bottom 10.

I see them in 2025 as either bottom 10, a bubble team, or just getting into the playoffs, depending on the moves they make with all these vets that want out.
They're in the worst position ever IMO, they'll be in that bubble discussion for the foreseeable future.

Draft around 15-20, maybe make the PO maybe not...

They won't be bubble if they trade all these players that want out for futures: Toffoli, Lindholm, Backlund, Hanafin.

And they can trade more as they play well.

If they want they can get to bottom 10 and do a rebuild by 2025, which is bad for us. But it's what their fans want.

Huberdeau is untradeable now. But if he has a point per game season next year, they can trade him, especially if they retain, likecthe Sharks will probably do with Karlsson.

The majority of teams that are contending are already at the max of their cap and the teams that are rebuilding don't need those guys so good luck getting a good value in those trades.

Toffoli had 34 goals and 73 points and is on a low cap hit. He can easily be traded. Lindholm too. Backlund is 34 and not worth much.

Yeah but when they know you're trading because you are forced to trade, teams will take advantage of the bad situation...

True, but teams usually get something pretty good for rentals. Toffoli at 50% retained should get a 1st and a prospect. Lindholm should get a good haul. I don't know about hanafin.

If KH can turn Petry into Matheson, anything is possible!

Haven't we learned from the Florida pick thread?

Flames pick is protected I think.

It has several conditions that's hard to explain. But make no mistake, Flames are not trending good and they are tracking rebuild. This is good news, not bad. No need for others to belittle anybody for pointing that out. How it actually plays out is anybody's guess.

Just cause the Canes pick and the Panthers pick didn't go as well as we would have liked or talked about, it don't mean the Flames pick will be the exact same. It's a guessing game and just conversations.

Well since this is potentially only in 2025, we would need to get an extra 1st round pick in 2024. Having only one first pick sucks. Luckily we have another shot at trading some of our best trade assets/rentals in Edmundson and Monahan in 2023-2024

But yes, best case scenario is we get the Flames pick between say, 11-15 in 2025.

I'm ready for this pick to be the Panthers one in the late 20s in 2025.

A lot of the contending teams also don't have many assets left, like Colorado has their 2023 1st & that's about it.

TB practically traded their entire 2023 draft picks.

Ditto Boston.

None of these teams have any cap room, and probably need to move money too.

Washington is in the same pickle with Kuznetsov.

Where are all these players going?

Detroit, Buffalo & Ottawa should be able to make improvements this year if they want, but teams are not going to get what they think they will.

Carolina & Seattle have cap space too. In Carolina's case, their entire forward core is going into the final year of their contracts with the exception of Svechnikov & Kotkaniemi. Same with their D.
