The Nemesis
Semper Tyrannus
I wonder when the Sharks try to improve? They trade for a #1 goalie who they don't play, they got there #1 (and #2) center(s). They got a top pairing guy (they hope) in Dickenson.
Surely they try and be competitive next year?
Sharks fan who's been occasionally seeing what's going on on this side tonight. So a couple of clarifications
1) Askarov is hurt. He probably would've been up with the big club after the deadline if he wasn't dealing with injuries. Otherwise the plan always seemed to be to not over-expose him to the Sharks' defensive efforts (and I use that term only in the loosest sense I can get away with)
2) The jury is still out on Smith's future position. He's looked a lot more comfortable this year as a winger. Maybe he grows out of that, maybe not. I don't think anyone's ready to anoint him as a for-sure 2C vs a 1RW
3) This team is still bad. Like... really bad. Generously they have 3.5 top 6 Fs right now, with slight discounting of Toffoli (age and streakiness) and Graf (unproven) and maybe 1 top 4 D (Ferraro feels like an iffy nominee for that job. Mukhamadullin was trending there, then he got his season ended on a dirty hit last week) and an absolute joke of a goalie in Georgiev. They're probably 3 years away from looking seriously dangerous.
I think most reasonable Sharks fans expect that the goal next year is to maybe be a bottom 3-5 team in the league instead of being dead last with a bullet. Believe it or not, this awful, awful season already actually represents an improvement for them.
But Celebrini is super fun, so there's that.
