Don’t know how much we suffer from not having Brady around, his offensive game will be missed but overall I think we can replace a lot of what he did away form the puck and certainly improve on speed in the top 6 and replace his production on the PP - can’t replace his net front and post up presence and how he got the puck to net. But overall internally we can replace 85% of what he did

I wish there were online forums in the 80s, the Gretzky sucks crowd would have been a hoot.

There sort of was, in each issue the hockey news published peoples opinions in their fan forum, you just couldn't reply as easily as here on hf ☺️

3 years is a long time.

Barkov, Reinhart, Verhaeghe, and Bennett will be 34. It gives Matthew T 3 more years to break down because of the type of player he is. Marchand will be in his 40's. Their 30 year old defensemen, which is all of them, will have that many more miles on those legs. If they were to get Hellebuyck, he's already 33.

How long do you think they have?
Yes, they will decline, but they won't drop to a team that doesn't make the playoffs or even gets close any spot with a likely good pick.

Plus 2029 is top 10 protected

I believe, truly, that he was no longer the straw that stirs the drink, that's Sanderson and Stutzle, so we're dealing with a top line player that needs to be replaced.

It's more than doable

I think he was pretty solidly Ottawa's 3rd best player, with Batherson kind of nipping at his heels.

It definitely leaves a hole. The fact that he missed a good chunk of the season and had a poor playoff is going to be what a lot of people remember due to recency bias.

With Florida's top 9, he will have a lot of opportunities to reset after a season to forget.

It's really getting pathetic how many players are requesting trades and then listing some combination of Florida, Vegas, Carolina and Tampa as the locations they'd accept trades to. Maybe it's always been like this and I just forgot but I can't recall stars throwing their hands up and then specifically requesting to be moved to Colorado, Detroit or New Jersey in the late 90s.

There's a very easy counterexample one can point to, and it happens to be one of the teams involved in this trade.
Sure, if you ignore the difficulties imposed by where they landed their arena.

For what it's worth, I've never criticised the Panthers for their years of struggles, because I know what that feels like.

Finally getting good management really turned the tide, and great for the long suffering fans and for hockey in general that the team is fun to watch. That said, I'm having a hard time feeling sorry for the Panthers cause other fans shit on them for suckling for decades.

Agree he was leaking oil a bit this season and was mostly flat and his legs seemed dead most nights, how many games did you watch last year where Brady was our best player (or even a top 3 player) Not many.

Even a lateral move like Lafrenière helps with speed and I think will improve us. Just do the 9th overall for Lafrenière and keep the playoff plane flying
