"Won't get the backlash"? Have you seen some of the replies here? If it's at all limited it's because so many already hated him and so it's difficult to have a "backlash" when there's not much further room for one's opinion of a guy to drop to. :)

Haha fair enough, I guess the form of public backlash is just different- Larkin is getting dragged and still hasn’t been traded, might have to pull teeth and accept a meh team if he wants out. Brady basically creates the environment that’d necessitate his departure, no-shows the playoffs, and gets to join the Florida jerks and it’s just kinda “..ok, figures.” So I guess it’s just that Larkin’s status changed, with Brady it just confirms what we already thought.

Let's be real here: Florida is doing this now because they want to have the last laugh on an emerging Carolina team that has far more of a second wave of talent coming up (Nikishin, Stankoven, Blake), all of their draft picks, and massive cap space for their own blockbuster addition. Florida very much lacks the first two things, but it doesn't mean they are not dangerous. As a result, they want to go all in for ~3 years or so before their core rots out of contention status. This is about as good a play as they possibly can make to hold off the Carolina machine.

Still don't have a goaltender though and CAR has a lot more room to try and add one of Helle or Shesty

Going to be a great ECF matchup either way, hopefully you guys will tear each other apart

Maybe. As a poster wrote earlier, the Canes used the 26th OA, a 2nd and a meh (he said bad) prospect to get K'Andre Miller. It all depends how Ottawa uses the later pick
it worked for the Canes but it didn’t work for many other teams. Low 1st are traded during TDL all the time . Of course it depends on how Ottawa deal with them but that doesnt make them valuable

Highly doubt that 2029 pick will be top 20. And the odds of a 9th overall pick being anything close to Brady is very slim.

3 years is a long time.

Barkov, Reinhart, Verhaeghe, and Bennett will be 34. It gives Matthew T 3 more years to break down because of the type of player he is. Marchand will be in his 40's. Their 30 year old defensemen, which is all of them, will have that many more miles on those legs. If they were to get Hellebuyck, he's already 33.

How long do you think they have?

I really don’t think Ottawa fans should be happy with that return. They want to win now and don’t get a single roster player. I guess the fact he has a NMC makes this a little bit easier to swallow.

There a few factors in play:

1. Tkachuk apparently not wanting to extend here which puts a countdown on trading him before he leaves for nothing.

2. Tkachuk having an NMC list which includes the current three most popular teams in the league (Vegas, Florida and Minnesota) and the Stanley Cup champion (Carolina).

3. Rumors of the dressing room not necessarily minding that he get moved out. Whether or not these are real or just coping mechanisms remains to be confirmed.

In any case, you put those together and you have some degree of urgency with a limited pool of teams available.

One of the top available assets, the Florida #9 pick, could have gone elsewhere (e.g. Detroit for Larkin) so maybe Staios was trying to get it done quick to both take the top draft pick assets of one of the top destinations and gain the trade capital to acquire someone else before the free agency/trade target cupboard is completely bare.

Agree. My point was it depends what you do with it.

If they just "draft at 25th", the chances are less. Their GM needs to think more broadly to be successful.

Lmao. I guess you didn’t see the last few FLA-CAR series.

2 years

2 Gold Medals and 2 Cups already. Must be opposite day.

The Tkachuk Derangement Syndrome is out of control. For example, dolts keep bringing up Brady's shit playoffs this yr....conveniently forgetting he was a complete beast the year prior and clutch af.

I'm not sure you can be clutch af and lose to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 6 games.

...it isn't just the goaltending, though...13 forwards, 6 defensemen; if even minor injuries show up, especially on defense, they are in trouble...
You just worry about your team. The Panthers are doing just fine and have the best GM in the league. He’ll figure it out.
