Why is it so hard for panthers fans to admit that they have a huge advantage because of taxes? How convenient is it that Yzerman went from instantly being a top GM in Tampa to a terrible GM in Detroit?

The criteria to sign players to cheap contracts appears to be:

1 - have low taxes
2 - be a good team

Every single team can potentially meet the 2nd criteria and be a good team if they are managed properly.

But there are only a few teams that will meet the first criteria because they have no control over taxes.

The panthers were a terrible hockey team for years and now they can finally benefit from their low taxes because they have a great team.

But their fans pretend that Zito is an amazing GM that can convince his players to sign for less without factoring tax.

:help:
Lmao, wtf are you talking about? How many years in our team's history has this been beneficial to us? When have we been close to being an elite team before Zito came in? Did he not overturn the roster? Did he not find guys who work well together, who will play the way they need to in order to stay competitive, meaning they fully buy in, and be able to talk them into doing what it takes to mostly stay together??

We lost Lomberg, Gudas, Montour, Stenlund, Stolarz, and others over the yeas because they couldn't fit under the cap, had to buy out Yandle, move Matheson and Stralman which cost us picks and prospects.

All of the guys that're signed could've gotten more on the open market, they bought into the Panthers, ownership, South Florida, the Cup, and having the best GM in the game.

Pretend Zito is an amazing GM, he f***ing is. Which of our previous GMs did anything close to the above with the "tax advantage?" No one. It starts with amazing ownership after a decade plus of dogshit, them allowing Zito the ability to do what he has to do, and trusting him to do it. The only one pretending is you and the others who cry about it because their GMs overpay out their asses. Yeah, the tax benefit is a tool, same as everything else with the Panthers and other teams, but you have to know how to use it and who to use it on.

I don't remember anyone bitching about the tax advantage when we had to overpay free agents to get them signed because we sucked. Good example of that is Bobrovski's contract.

It's fascinating how people scream "tax advantage!!!", like there aren’t other factors influencing where players sign.

For example, there are literally tornadoes and stuff going on in Florida right now; every year there’s a game which might get cancelled because of some storm. Are you telling me players and their families don’t care about this at all, or should we next quantify "desitability of location" to make sure the competition is "fair" when negotiating contracts?

Well said. Having an “unfair advantage” excuses their team’s inability to stay/be competitive.

Cap structure starts with the highest paid player, who is usually the best on the team. Leadership is demonstrated from the very top. I'm convinced that barkov signing for 10m means Florida can sign one extra 6m player.

No they don’t. I love all the whining now over Florida. It’s so great.

It's not over Florida. It's over the fact that every f***ing year there's a team in the finals that has no state tax. It's not a secret it's an unfair advantage.

Sit there all you want and scream that you don't have an advantage. Everyone knows you're lying.

Happy for him.. I wish we could have kept him, but he never would have been what he became in FL.. all is well that ends well.
