8x11, I'd guess. He's a bit better than what JT was heading into UFA, but Florida's no income tax knocks it back down to $11M.

True but extension vs going to market tends to bring the price down a bit. I’m leaning closer to $10.

As a UFA, he'd get 12M+ easily.

But other Tampa greats have signed for less recently, such as Kucherov, Hedman, Vasi or Stamkos. I'm sure state taxes + climate helps. But just because those Tampa players signed for less, doesn't mean Barkov is willing to.

I'm also pretty certain he won't sign for less than Bob (10M$ AAV) as that would be idiotic.

My guess is he gets 11 or 11.5M$ for ~7-8 years.

If he goes for under 10 that would be a steal. But I think we'll see 8 figures. At least that's what we should see for a player of his caliber.

Thinking 10 or 10.5, just because I don't think Florida went into these talks with a strategy to convince him that he's worth less than Bobrovsky and to play hard ball on that lol. That combined with no state tax (on the open market, bidding would have started at the Panarin contract). 10 or 10.5 x 8 seems a safe bet.

LeBrun: - Panthers and Barkov deep into extension talks, announcement could come in a few weeks

Come on man, I know everyone wants to be the OP of a popular post but it's not even halfway down the first page.
This announcement says an extension could happen today. That announcement says an extension could come in a few weeks. It’s also from different sources. The thread tag is different. If there was a mega thread I would have just posted it there.

If you really feel that bothered that there’s another thread, ask a mod to merge them. I have no issue.

Why do people think that if some teams overpay players that somehow it can be used as a comparable. He's barely a ppg player. He shouldn't get anything much over 9 aav

might wanna redo your math. And look at his hardware. Or don’t, he’s earned whatever he gets, and most likely more than what he signs for. Dude has been a huge player in turning this franchise around.

except Friedman says he’s hearing TODAY is a good day, sounds like it may come today. Instead of weeks.

... yeah, so you put that update in the thread where that extension is already being talked about with 4 pages of content. I understand the allure of wanting to be first to "break" a story, or be the OP of a thread but come on.

If we make a new thread for every time a different insider gives a different time line/comment then we'd have 5 main page threads for every topic up for discussion. Just common sense.

or, just allow a mod to do it if he feels it needs to be merged. I wouldn’t check that thread with that title if there was an update, but this caught my attention. I hadn’t checked Twitter yet after making breakfast, so it was nice to see.
