Confirmed Trade: [FLA/CHI] Seth Jones (26.3% retained; $7M AAV) and 2026 4th round pick for Spencer Knight and 2026 1st round pick

So Brandon Montour. Like we said…. But you guys just want to shit on Jones because you don’t like him.
So the Kraken are my second favorite team. Montour is a much different player. He’s smarter and smaller than Seth. He competes more too. Seth skates the puck better, Brandon is good at that too but passes better and makes things happen far more often.

I’m not shitting on Seth I think he is extremely talented. He just isn’t a high hockey iq guy.

I’m not comparing them as players. I’m comparing them as guys who can be good on the second pairing.

Neither is Montour really. He's actually more similar to Jones than most would like to admit. Both really rely on their athleticism to get by, in different ways, but it's why both can munch minutes like crazy and never seem tired. Montour has more bite, but he's not great in his own end and I've liked Jones much more for that in his 7 games. Neither should really be pp1 guys. Ekblad has looked better being the QB on the pp this season than Montour ever did. Montour's greatest asset he brings is that he is a great rover and when paired with the right stay at home guy, can bring great value to a team and eat tons of minutes.

I agree that they are not that far off. I just think Montour is a better play maker offensively by a fair amount. He’s smarter with the puck by quite a bit and more consistent. Jones can at times be a more dynamic player but they are pretty similar overall. I think jones is the more physically gifted of the two, and I wish he had more edge in his game because jones would be tough to deal with if he did. Instead he is a true class act tbh, ant least as far as dirty play goes, and that’s honorable too, but maybe not as useful. Just a little more grit would help. Anyway, I think he gets too much criticism because he is pretty gifted and could be so much better with not much of a change.

If bob stays mostly healthy for this year and next, this seems like a great trade to me for Florida. I think it will work out for the hawks too. Bob has been a pretty healthy goalie. Seems like a good risk to take for Florida.

Yup, it's a good trade for both teams. Knight will be great. I would've liked to keep him to succeed Bob, but the reality is we really needed a top 4 RH PMD. And moving Knight's salary clears more room to re-sign Bennett and Ekblad. Jones also seems like a good fit in our system. We often don't need the best players, just the right fits.

Seth Jones doesn't know how to play D. He's rushing around the d zone like a headless chicken.

When his d pair is going to the corner this dumb f*** follows him.

And when there is a player in front of our goalie this f***er just moves away.

Thanks chicago and bill zito :(

One move ruined the panthers.

This post is turrible. How many players came here and improved? He was supposed to be a second pair the rest of this year and now he’s been moved up to top pair while learning a completely different system. He was great the first few games, chill.

Montour took some time to shake off Buffalo and grow into the player he could be. I’ll be patient with Jones, he was solid until he had to move up, I’m sure he’s in his head a bit.

Panthers hybrid system is not easy to adjust to, especially coming from whatever it is they try to do in Chicago. Give him time.

I guess Spencer Knight sucks too. Or MAYBE both players are still adjusting to their teams!
For Knight tonight, it wasn't a matter of adjusting, it was a matter of the team in front of him, particularly the forwards, puck watching all night long.

After two periods, Kraken had like 7 one timers in the slot. 3 of which went in. It was ridiculous.

I was the one earlier in this thread saying Hawks fans shouldn't be judging Jones here because we aren't watching him perform anymore. We're stat watching.

Same goes for Knight. You'd assume he played like ass today if you were stay watching.

Yup, sometimes whole teams don't even get hybrid man to man right. The Panthers have mastered it pretty well, but Jones is still adjusting. It doesn't help he's had to play 25-28 minutes every game since Ekblad was suspended.

I saw the game. Maybe 1 or 2 I didn’t like but the others were gimmies.

Uhm, lots of people?

From Florida's POV, Knight was a $4.5 mil backup while they're chasing a cup. Last year he wasn't even back-up quality and he still had 1 year left on his contract with an impending cap crunch.

I frankly would've been surprised if he was on the team at the start of next season. This isn't to negate Knight's potential, but Florida couldn't go into next year with $15 mil tied up in goaltending.
That’s actually kind of shocking they won the cup with $15M sunk into their goaltenders. Didn’t realize knight was paid that much

I told y'all he's gonna be a stud. And he's only 23. Take care of him , he's a good kid. Meanwhile, the Panthers have only allowed 4 goals in 4 games since Jones stepped into the lineup, with two shutouts in there. He's gonna be so good in Florida for such a long time, he looks so much better than he did in Chicago. Looks like mid 10's Jones. Part of that is probably Florida's system and overall team strength, it tends to make a lot of players look better. But that is why he was such a good fit here. Great trade for both teams.
Agreed.

Jones at 7 million and playing as the 2nd/3rd best defensemen on the team is a lot better than #1 defensemen Jones.

I expect Knight to be a top 10 goalie in this league at some point. I think both teams got something they needed.

Hawks won this trade, I could see Knight being their starter next year. Knight still has a lot of upside and Florida gave up on him way too soon.

Florida still sees Bob as their starter and it came out today that they’re wanting to re-sign him after his current contract expires next year. Knight was due for a raise as well, we needed to shore up the 2nd pair. Jones had a good game tonight. Could be one of those win-wins.

Knight will almost certainly be the starter here.

While I'm not sure extending Bob and keeping him as the de-facto starter is the way to go for Florida, if they can get him signed for enough of a discount, they can probably find a good 1A/1B type with the cap savings. They didn't necessarily need to keep Knight in order to have solid goaltending for the foreseeable future, it just would've made things a bit easier for Zito.

And Jones is chopped liver? Bobrovsky has 3 shutouts in 7 games since Jones came into the lineup. That's not a coincidence. Both teams got what they wanted.

Yes it is. Clearly more related to the team tightening up given the time of year and the fact they are missing their #1 D and #1 W

theyve been taking their foot off the gas these past few games, having jones back there just made us defensively solid even halfassing it
4 shutouts and 1.44 GAA since hes been here and the team isnt playing playoff hockey, kinda like last year

Hopefully we have far more games from him like this moving forward.
