Confirmed Trade: [FLA/CHI] Seth Jones (26.3% retained; $7M AAV) and 2026 4th round pick for Spencer Knight and 2026 1st round pick

To be fair, who suspected FLA would trade Knight?
Uhm, lots of people?

From Florida's POV, Knight was a $4.5 mil backup while they're chasing a cup. Last year he wasn't even back-up quality and he still had 1 year left on his contract with an impending cap crunch.

I frankly would've been surprised if he was on the team at the start of next season. This isn't to negate Knight's potential, but Florida couldn't go into next year with $15 mil tied up in goaltending.

Knight with a .923 save percentage in his second game with the Hawks. Puts him at 8th league wide this season (minimum 20 games).

I told y'all he's gonna be a stud. And he's only 23. Take care of him , he's a good kid. Meanwhile, the Panthers have only allowed 4 goals in 4 games since Jones stepped into the lineup, with two shutouts in there. He's gonna be so good in Florida for such a long time, he looks so much better than he did in Chicago. Looks like mid 10's Jones. Part of that is probably Florida's system and overall team strength, it tends to make a lot of players look better. But that is why he was such a good fit here. Great trade for both teams.

Can any Florida Panthers fans comment on how Jones looks via the eye test?

Cause I took a look at his underlying stats out of curiosity, and dear god they’re bad.

14.92 5v5 GF% (-2.66 G/60 Rel)

47.82 5v5 SF% (-7.88 S/60 Rel)

47.94 5v5 CF% (-18.12(!!!) C/60 Rel)

39.19 5v5 xGF% (-1.72 xG/60 Rel)

(Rel is the difference between him on the ice vs rest of team in any combination without him on the ice; so for example, the Panthers are giving up roughly 2.66 goals more per 60 minutes of Jones’ ice time than they do in 60 minutes without him on the ice)

Only 7 game sample size, obviously, so wondering what Panthers fans think of him in his reduced role? Do the numbers seem to match what you’re watching thus far?

He looked good until he moved up to the top pair, so his role was just moved up. He was beaten badly on an Islanders goal. The last 2 games the whole team has been off, though. I’m interested to see how he does the rest of the season, but the Ek suspension seems to be a blessing in disguise to see how Jones would do should we move on from Ek. He may just be a 2nd pair guy, which is fine, we needed one.

I thought he looked horrible when the Bruins played them the other week. Was getting beat wide a lot. That's only one game though.
