Florida really throwing the future away here. Don't like this for them.
This will all catch up with Florida in about 5 years from now, We are definitely riding the highs now and in 5 years will be retooling with UFAs, because our draft picks cupboard is empty.

Did anyone know Sam Reinhart had 60 goal potential before he came to Florida? What did they all think about Forsling? Montour?

Zito sees things differently than everyone else.

Anyone betting against his judgment has not learned yet. Good luck.

Seth Jones is about to play the best hockey of his life. He’s locked in w the core. Zito has full faith it will work exceptionally.
Forgot about Bennett? c'mon now!! everyone wants Bennett now.

Bob is like 62 years old and will retire any year now. To get rid of Knight who looks like he might turn into a star goalie is a weird move. Seth Jones is good but he's not that good.

You said he was just a consolation prize for missing out on Askarov don’t go out here trying to make predictions on Knight as if you viewed him as a good get prior to his debut
Yeah, who ever saw Spencer Knight play before, amirite? It's not like he's got a lengthy resume or something.

I said he was a "SOLID consolation prize." Wanting Askarov but being very happy with Knight isn't the sick burn you think it is.

I also wrote Knight has more natural skill than anyone in the hawks goalie room. Can I write that or nah?

Based on what, one game? Nobody here was even talking about Knight before the trade. Jeez.

And Bob retiring isn't a worry for this or the next year, when a top 4 RD was a big one. Even after that considering his durability, it seems a much safer bet that he continues playing on year to year basis. I can see him playing until 40. Worrying about his successor isn't a thing.

I can't read for you. Its pretty simple English. Tkachuk will be held back on IR once recovered to take advantage LTIR and he will magically be recovered for game one of the playoffs.

Not a single Panther fan, including yourself is worried about him missing the start of the playoffs. Not one arguement about it. Just a couple Panther fans being pissy about it. I even said I don't blame them.

"I mean", what exactly is your issue.....man?

Who are you even talking to at this point? Do this entire forum a favor and go back to 4chan

You can't see in the quote? What exactly are you mad at about from what what I have said? These pissy comments don't belong on this board.

It's you attacking me not the other way around.

What did Spencer Knight do in the playoffs for the Panthers last year to help them win the cup? Where was he the year prior when they went to the finals? Was he slotted to be the Panthers number 1 goalie in the playoffs this year? Next year?

Having a Seth Jones on the ice instead of getting zero contribution from Spencer Knight in the playoffs, is far more valuable to this team.

Jones plays a lot of minutes and he doesn’t play with any sort of flow. He plays a very selfish offensive game. Constantly rips shin pads and makes the wrong decision with the puck. I think you keep him off the PP and you just have him play hard defensive minutes.
So you are saying, Jones is going to come to the Panthers, and tell Maurice this is how I am going to play? that is just naïve, he either plays the system or he sits, he joined a winning team for many years to come, check the Panthers reclaimed projects of players that were done according to analytics, check where they are right now.

The assumption is made that Jones does not have the tools to be a better defenseman than he was for the last few years, he is coming to a well oiled machine, where he is going to plug in, and he is going to do specific tasks with specific time allowed, and Panthers have a great record to making this type of players flourish again.

Not sure what you're saying and what it has anything to do with what I am saying. Maurice isn't dictating every single decision Seth makes on the ice, in the moment. They have the system and how Florida wants to play. That doesn't dictate every decision on the ice. Its a fast free flowing game.

Also all I really said was to not put him on the PP and just play him defensive minutes.

Deal works for both teams.

I have hated Jones in Chicago for a long while now. Best I can describe his play is "lackadaisical" and "nonchalant". Think it might've been hurting the team here more than helping. A guy who plays the most minutes playing like that sets the tempo for how the rest of the team plays. When he's been out this season, I've generally felt the Hawks have played faster, which is the style Davidson wants the Hawks to play.

But in Florida, with the defending champs, he's more likely going to have to adapt a bit to their style of game, instead of the team adapting to his. The benefit of having multiple defenders who are as good or better than him on the roster.

And he really should solidify that D core. On paper (and with a healthy Tkachuk), they look better than they did the last two seasons, both of which had them making it to the Final.

Jones might not be worth half his contract ($9.5m per, not the $7m Florida is paying) in those final two years, but the Cats are in win now mode and pushing their chips in for him is a good, albeit bit ballsy, move.

And while losing Knight may hurt, he was their backup this season. If things go right, he wouldn't have been playing a single minute in the playoffs for them anyways. Knight may not have helped that team go on another run for this season or next, but Jones certainly can.

Hawks get rid of Jones, who again, has been very "lackadaisical" here and may not even be worth half of what we would've been paying him in those final couple of seasons, which are the years the Hawks are hoping to be at least a bit competitive. Hawks also have Levshunov and Rinzel in the pipeline, both former 1st rounders with size and skating, who would be pushing Jones down the lineup in those final years. And those two, along with Korchinski, could eventually have bumped down Jones to the 2nd PP unit, or worse, off the powerplay completely.

If we kept Jones, in those last couple seasons, we very well could've been stuck paying him $9.5m per and only be playing him in a 3rd pairing role. Getting out of that potential situation is a blessing.

I like Knight. Doesn't hold as much value as when he was drafted, but some of that is also due to his cap, which we aren't worried about here. He has the highest chance of anyone in this organization to becoming a starter, a good one at that, so we're happy he's here. More 1sts are also appreciated.

tldr: Jones sucked here, but could certainly be better on a better team. Hawks open space on the right side defense of the future for Levshunov and Rinzel. Happy with Knight and a 1st.
for the 2 trades, the chances to workout are very high, Knight is a very talented goalie who was in the up swing this year and Jones has exactly the right tools on a defenseman that the Panthers needed, Jones already played one game and displayed exactly what we were looking, also, I think both players are very happy with the change of scenery.

Bobrosky is playing very well and he will turn it on at the Playoffs, Knight would not be playing any games, Knight will be a very good goalie in 4-5 years, by that time, the Panthers will be retooling and fighting to barely make the Playoffs, so the time is now, that is the logic behind it.

Jones will plugin into a well oiled machine, he is not the man anymore, he is just one of the guys. he will play less minutes with specific tasks, give him 10 games and you will see what I mean.

Yes, Maurice tells him if he will be a stay at home defenseman or if he has to pinch every time he gets a chance, he can also tell him that he will be a shutdown defensemen if he needs to, it is Maurice team.

Wouldn't surprise me if Jones logs the most minutes from here, right now he's automatically the Panthers #1D. Forsling and Ekblad move down one slot as Forsling is more of a #2D and Ekblad a #3D.

He doesn’t tell him when to shoot or when to pass which is what I was talking about in my post.
