My guess is that they wanted to keep PP2 intact to try to form some sort of cohesiveness in at least one group moving forward
Then why has he cut their time. Pp1 is now routinely out there for a good minute and 20 seconds per pp.

Bones is struggling with the PP -What I meant by inferior placeholders is moving up guys like Lowry and Iafallo who are bottom 6 players and dont have much business being on a top pp unit. Especially when you have the alternative to easily move the two best players from PP unit two over. One of which is outperforming everyone on PP1, and Nino who's actually outperformed Vilardi in the bumper this year.
Sure more talent helps, but it's a lazy narrative when you still have good talent available that is underutilized. I'll take a quote out of Bones's playback, he needs to look for solutions and stop making excuses.
Bones is struggling with the PP -
I'll give him some credit in having an idea of what he wants - but the players don't appear to be interested - so that's on him (and the players).
Looks like he's trying to get some beef in front while 55/13 are out and then convince his shooters (or anyone for that matter) to shoot - but they won't.
I agree with those that feel we need a different approach - and I'm concerned that Bonus isn't influencing this group into playing it the way he wants then to.
Even then, I'm not sure his way is the right way when you consider the talent he have which should be enough to put up points.
IMO, when things are this broke, just get pucks on the net and have bodies there to pick up the rebounds and avoid the turnover. This might be what Bones is asking for now but it's real hard to tell when none of this is happening.
I won't bother shifting the deck chairs - doesn't really seem to matter where we put the guys - they continue to over pass and avoid shooting opportunities.
Might add Barron..Volare screening the goalie on one powerplay and someone like Nino/Lowry on the other one for starters.
Iafallo on the pp? Man ppl over rating this Brandon Tanev as a jet clone. That's the power play we are running now... why keep doing it? We are not getting net front consistently and if we do, its Lowry who has stone hands.
When healthy
Vilardi-Iafallo in the slot

Any suggestions for alternate personnel are welcome... but that's not really your style.Iafallo on the pp? Man ppl over rating this Brandon Tanev as a jet clone.
It's the coaches job to make use of what he has, not what he wishes he has. That is one area I haven't been impressed with Bones. He hasn't shown the flexibility to adapt his pieces on the fly on the PP. Injuries happen so you need ro be able to shift gears, not put in place inferior placeholders.
I also question if he actually understands what he has in terms of pieces. A coach should be able to reward and recognize performance. Perfetti has been the best PP performer this year. For a PP unit that is struggling you would think you'd want to play your best performer more, not less which is what the coaching staff has done.
Since the changes made to the pp on December 19, our first unit has 2 of the 7 PP goals scored (One of which was when Perfetti took Scheifele's spot on the hb).
Perfetti has been in on 5 of the 7 goals and has an over 9 ppp/60.
There is a complete disconnect here in terms of performance vs deployment. Either play pp unit two the bulk of the pp until unit 1 actually does something to warrant the ice time they are getting or pull your head out of your ass and recognize that you are under utilizing your best pp weapon and build a unit around him and play it properly.
Your comments here and in earlier posts are pretty much right on the mark. But I don`t see any evidence from Bones` post game comments that he grasps the issues with the specialty teams. When he first started talking about "change" weeks ago, he clearly was fixated only on possible player moves, and had no intention of changing the way the PP was set up to function tactically or otherwise.Just look at where all our shots are coming from. They are coming from KC or JoMo. It is incredibly easy to shut down two shooters. The coaches need to add far more points of attack.
It’s an interesting position to be in. The PP has been putrid (not even below average, it’s sucked) for over half the season now so you gotta think there’s pressure on Lauer — and that he should lose his job in short order if it doesn’t turn around quickly — but on that same token, the team is playing well overall, so do you really want to make a coaching change? Probably not.
That's it, we're hiring gpt to fix the ppView attachment 812715
Looks like we’ll have to see if getting Scheifele back does help us out.
We have ineffective movement and our sniper in the wrong spot. Connor and Scheifele have the best shots but we have Connor way off to the side where he can occasionally get a one timer, but because we aren't moving, it's predictable and not often a great angle.
I'd put Connor more in the slot, when we get the puck moving. The other team than has to cover him, or let someone else open up that side, Ehlers and Scheifele get room if they do. If not, get Connor shooting from the slot, with traffic.
I'd probably put Pionk on PP1 because he gets puck through and has a decent shot.
Either way, we don't generate shots or chances standing around and having our best players in less than ideal spots.
I would like Perfetti basically behind the net feeding Connor and Scheifele , Perfetti is a good passer and Scheifele and Connor have the best one timers on the team.I agree with your thoughts on the shooters. KC isn't being used correctly. He's our best pure finisher but he scores almost all of his goals from in tight. He doesn't have an over powering shot so having him shoot from distance is ineffective. Murat did a nice breakdown of his shot earlier in the year, and it's his ability to be deceptive and place the puck from in close that allows him to be as lethal as he is. As you said he'd be better in the slot/bumper or possibly even coming out from the corner to the front of the net to shoot (where he played his first few seasons on the pp).
I think you need to get Perfetti and his playmaking and smarts on pp 1.

I would have Scheifele right in front like he was a long time ago and Connor more or less in the same spot he is now just closer to the net. I agree Connor is too far away from the net for his shot. I think the Jets are too far away from the net because like you say nobody really has the cannon to shoot from where they are setting up right now.Definitely something to try. Whereabouts would you have KC and Mark positioned?
