From the recent Checkers article:

Mike Vellucci believes a crucial point to being successful is winning the special teams battle. So far, his power play operates at 40 percent, scoring six goals on 15 chances, while the penalty kill hovers around 90 percent.

Maybe the Canes should consult with Vellucci

They had the 3rd best PP last year as well, 24th ranked PK. But as Tripp Tracy says you're doing good when your PP + PK combine for over 100%, they finished with 101.6%.

I don't think Hamilton has been trrrible, just not as good as I expected/hoped

Necas, McGinn, Zykov, Svech, and Hamilton are players I had high expectations for going into the season. Higher than I should have (read unreasonable). Everyone else is performing about as I would expect, with a few surprises being Mrazek, Foegele and Ferland. Staal and Aho having great starts too. We're only 7 games in, with much of the league lagging behind so a lot can/will change.

I'm assuming Ferland's taking the faceoffs? Weird to have a unit where no one can take draws.

Did Rod forget that it’s somewhat helpful to win face offs on the PP?

Svechnikov needs time to learn the wing, so they are moving him to center until he gets comfortable, then they'll move him back to wing.

Get within 4 feet of cleanly gaining the zone, turn around for a backward pass to the trailing point man, turn the puck over at the blueline. Other team instantly clears it to your end... now you have the puck again.

We've broken the game.

How is the other team going to score if we always have the puck????

I hadn't seen that before. Why did the refs blow the whistle? What is the call?

72.1Refusing or Abstaining from Playing the Puck - The purpose of this section is to enforce continuous action and both Referees and Linesmen should interpret and apply the rule to produce this result.

There's not a specific rule to cover what the Flyers did, but the officials "interpreted and applied" the rule and basically told both teams to knock it off.

I'd look this up myself, but I don't know where you analytics geeks get your data... My apologies if my memory is off.

What adjustments did we make mid-season last year that took us from around 26th(?) to around 12th(?) in about a 1 1/2 months? Wasn't our PP literally 1st or 2nd in the league during that stretch?
