Hows everyones hunting seasons going? I got a nice doe last week and filled my freezer with it.

Im curious what your butchers charge? Mine charged $52 cut and wrapped. I took it to him skinned. I cant figure out for the life of me how the heck he makes money at that rate. I mean, I know its his job and he'd be a hell of a lot better at it then me, but $52 seems like way to low of a price. Not that im complaining, lol.

I had fully planned on butchering my own deer this year, but it was 20C and I didnt want to leave her hanging in that weather. She was at the butchers first thing in the morning.

I'm not a hunter, never even fired a gun in my entire life. However, you got an incredible deal. To put it into perspective keep reading. I bought a 6-kilo prime rib roast at Metro. I asked their butcher if he could cut the bone off and retie it back on. He replied that is a fancy cut and incurs an extra charge. I asked how much? I thought he said 2 bucks, so I said yeah sure do it please. When I saw the bill I said I think there was an error. He replied no error, 2 dollars a kilo for the fancy cut. Yep it cost me 12 bucks for him to slice the bone off and tie it back on. took him 5 minutes to do it all. :(

I butcher all my own animals. Make sausages, bacon and hams (both wild pork and venison) biltong and Jerky etc. Want to learn how to make salami.
My hunting clients are 99.9% international, most of them cannot take the meat from their hunts home (pretty sure Americans can) and due to volume per season I need to get that proffessionally butchered and mostly give the meat away to charity or events.
That usually costs me $60 per animal and most of that cost is time in the chiller.

I've done a few deer on my own, but I was not prepared for 20c heat. That's about 15-20 degrees warmer then usual and I didn't have anyway to cool the animal down at camp. So off to the butcher it went.
Typically we'll let them hang a few days if temps are acceptable before dealing with them. Just too damn hot this year.

Never seen anything during rifle but black powder not far off. Never got into the bow much, I like to wander bush. First time in over 15 years that I got a doe tag so I better not waste it.

Not a hunter but I am a regular golfer. Off-season has been on for 2 weeks for me. :(

I golfed 2x a week from April until 2 weeks ago. Dont know what to do with my free time until ski season starts up.

Been eyeing a few clubs to add to the bag right now though. Bought a SIM max 3 wood from Golf Towns demo sale for 50% off, now looking to add a 50-52 since I have a huge gap in my game between my P and 56.

Thinking of the RTX4 or Vokey SM8 but cant make the decision.

I can't speak for the SM8, but I rock a Vokey SM7 52 and love it. Sand wedge and lob are Taylormade mill grind 2s. I was considering replacing my old 90's ping 5 wood with a G410.

Actually, its funny that you mention the G410. My buddy was actually the one who went all out on the Golf Town demo sale and pretty much bought as many of the demo models as possible. I had, still have, the choice between the G410 and SIM max. Im still debating it but am leaning towards the SIM max because they are the same tech as the M6 hybrids I have and they are currently my favourite clubs. Although the G410 is in perfect condition and the SIM max is a bit dinged up.

As for the wedges, I currently have Clevland CG15s for both my 56 and 60 which are 10 years old now I believe so I am due for an upgrade. The RTX4 would be the newest iteration of those but the Vokeys are obviously top of the line.

I wish there was a black powder season up here. I have a tag still so I may try with the crossbow if the reasonable weather holds. My issue is that deer leave my property when real serious snow starts in and go to historical winter yards. There isn't a deer around at our place from Dec 1st to mid April in a normal winter.

It’s a hit or miss season, no snow it’s fun but if it snows then they yard up on park land and don’t leave. I enjoy the camp more then the hunt the older I get I find.

It been slow around here in central Ontario. I’ve seen lotsa does and smaller bucks. But most of the mature bucks I had on camera have disappeared. I’ve got a few 3.5 year old bucks but I really want them to get older. I’ve been more busy chasing poachers and trespassers tbh. Muzzeloader season is next week and that’s my favourite time. Good luck to anyone still hunting.

Anyone fishing this winter?

Heres a small lake trout I caught last weekend. But hes pretty and I like the pic. Also reminded me that fresh trout straight from the lake is bar none the best fish available in Ontario. Yes, better then walleye or perch.

If you're talking about how they taste, I'll have to disagree with you there.
I'd rank them
1) Perch/Walleye
2) Whitefish
3) Salmon/Steelhead
4) Burbot
5) Crappie
6) Lake Trout
