So do we put the pill up now about who likes and who hates the pick so when people come back in 3 to 5 years saying what a shitty pick we made they can really back it up by saying they knew it from the beginning?

I like the pick, big kid, good hands, goes to the middle. Drafted right where he was believed to be taken. Was projected anywhere from 10 to 25.

Let’s see how our Development team handles (wrecks) him.

It's a draft pick. Unless you're talking McDavid, nobody has any idea. Actual draft pick history proves that. If Daigle goes to Pittsburgh(1st overall in the league), or Montreal(Cup winner), in 1993, does he end up a better player? Is he the great 1st overall pick he was supposed to be? Or does he still not care about hockey?

Troy Aikman was thrown to the wolves, and ended up a Super Bowl winning QB. Ryan Leaf had every tool possible, and ended up eventually being arrested for burglary, among various other things.

The Kings could be terrible at developing, and he ends up an all-star. They could be great, and he's the next whoeverthef***.

You talking about luck again? Why are you obsessed with arguing about luck? You want to absolve everyone working in pro sports of any accountability?
Should they even have employees for scouting and drafting? Or just have teams pick players out of hat and call it a day

It’s simple isn’t it. If you do the right things to be in a position to be lucky, you are lucky more often. Some players seem to get luck luck when they always get a rebound off the goalie when they go to the net. What doesn’t get noticed so much are the times they go to the net and the puck does not go to them.

If you’re constantly unlucky you are consistently doing the wrong things. The rare lucky moment doesn’t change that. That’s my long winded, obtuse way of saying I agree with @DoktorJeep and @All The Kings Men

October 7 update; Liam Greentree.
I think most anyone that saw rookie camp. the rookie tournament, regular training camp and practices, can say that Liam Greentree looks like a legit, future top 6 NHL forward.
I made it out to California a few weeks and saw the last Sunday practice he was there at TSC.
And a scrimmage. He looks poised and has excellent hockey sense...anticipates the play and can get into seams and also make plays. He has a good shot, as well.

He's now back at Windsor and while they were brutal last year, have started out 4-0-1 !! and are in first place. Liam missed game 1, while in LA. He has 2 goals, 7 assists and 9 pts, plus 6 in 4 games.
5th in OHL scoring...Porter Martone and Micheal Misa are #1 and 2. Both will be top 10 picks this coming draft.

To note, Windsor's goalie Costanza was goalie of the week and their #1 pick, Ethan Belchatz has 4 goals, 4 assists in 5 games...and is 6'4" 230 lb at age 16! He's also a RW and seems that Greentree and Belchetz will get most of the RW minutes. Belchetz is a 2026 draft eligible. At this rate, he seems to be a top 5 2026 pick. I hope he doesn't grow to 6'7" 260. That can't be good, can it?

Liam is 6'3" 215 now and already has NHL size and skills. (his shot, most stated NHL level)
I like that he's captain, has character, good hockey IQ, can make plays and has a camp behind him and knows what to work on, skating included. I would not be shocked to see him *make the Kings next season, out of camp. Turns 19 January 1.

edit: * I am not saying he will for sure, but has a shot and not worried about it, if he goes back to junior. I feel better about him, than ANY King #1 pick after the 19 range (Kupari, Bjornfot, Kaliyev, etc) as his complete package is way beyond any of them. It's mainly the skating, which is not bad at all. Think Glenn Murray said his skating in camp was good. I didn't notice flaws. Probably needs to be quicker, first 3 steps and see if can add some speed. I think his avg / subpar speed showed up at the tournaments, on bigger ice surface. So what, the NHL game is on smaller ice. If his skating was a little better and he had good tournaments, he would have gone 10-15 in the draft. I don't worry about top end skating, for 6'3" 215 lb wingers that are smart, can make plays, see the ice and can compete physically. If he plays another year of junior, so be it. Byfield was probably ready at 19, but the ankle break set him back and he was still underweight / not the man strength he needed to be at.

4 point day for Greentree in a Windsor 5-2 win over Oshawa. He's killing it.
With the games I've been able to watch he's done very well. Very much a facilitator for his linemates and the focal point on the powerplay, where everything runs through him.

He's also showing a lot of body work and assertiveness, utilizing his tools to recover the puck.

Also nice to see on the penalty kill. He's not a defensive stalwart and has a lot to learn there, but it's still good to see players progressing.

Most notably, Greentree is usually playing on the right side now, despite being a left shot. Usually when a player is put in his off-wing, this helps with them becoming bigger (or better) shooters. Even so, he still has 3 G, 13 A.

He's tied for the league lead in points.

With the Kings in danger of becoming a black hole team again...due to several things...Drew out an extended time, Kopi a year older (albeit still has it) probably league average goaltending (that's a big deal if your team is not near elite in any area)....I am back to coveting top draft talents. Seeing Greentree on the ice and following him, just makes that moreso. And not dealing Roy for a #1 hurts, since the Kings prospect pool is not deep in any area, except bottom pair defensemen and bottom 6 forwards. Goaltending depth looking better, but I would rate the closer to NHL Portillo, below Slukynsky and George.

Looking at the Ducks Carlsson, Gauthier, Sennecke, Solberg...the Sharks Celebrini, Ecklund, Smith, Dickinson, Askarov (how did he not make the Sharks and in AHL still?) The Utah Cooley, Iginla, Guenther, Simashev....I'm getting envious.

Kings will need Greentree and a few of: Ziemmer, Conmy, Pinelli, Jamsen, Helenius, Woolley, Booth, Dvorak, Wright, Slukynsky, George to really rise. Still, nothing like the Sharks, Ducks, Utah has going. If the Kings are out of a playoff spot at the deadline, please sell.

Woolley seems to be off to a great start in London. London is stacked on D. #11 OA 2024 Dickinson and #22 OA 2023 Oliver Bonk on D there. Woolley will probably learn a lot from them.
Was surprised Woolley got a preseason game and was not on the ice for a goal against. Epic, considEring a yr ago at this time, he was in JR B. Maybe he'll emerge to be top 4 D.
I honestly would love to see the Kings draft LHD or even RHD in round 1. Seriously need legit top 4 D in the system.

At least this season, it will be fun to watch QB, Laferriere (he's thankfully taken a step!) Clarke, Turcotte (if they will give him more than 6:20 ridiculous TOI) Thomas, Lee...hope to see Helenius up at some point.

I hope Greentree leads the OHL in scoring and Windsor goes far in the playoffs.

I have a feeling if Snoop Dog is ever in the King booth again and Greentree is on the Kings…he’d probably call him “money tree”. Or “get that money tree” I’ll be just fine if he’s never in the booth again. And I’m kinda sorry for the audio / visual.

Greentree’s next game today vs Owen Sound and Carter George. I’ll say Liam has 1 G, 2 A.

Man, it would be incredible for a Kings first round pick develop on a path that doesn’t require years of wondering when.

It’s early, but it’s always great to see a prospect progress exactly like you’d want him to.

Hopefully the Bluc show is over by the time he is ready, and he can be one of the “next” pieces moving forward for the following managment group.

A guy can dream.

This.
I think some of the reasons it’s been taking longer for almost all King prospects to make it, is their physical strength and ability to handle physical play…and hockey IQ to a degree. And add can be trusted defensively. Add maturity.

I’d say QB was def not physically mature and took 2+ yrs to get to full man strength. The ankle break and losing 20 lbs illness was a setback. I also noticed QB had no clue on D his first pro yr. He’d futilely chase down the puck carrier, instinctively and not be part of the system. It took time to learn

Greentree is the most physically developed 18 yr old since Kyle Clifford. Clifford made the Kings at 18, but had nowhere near the abilities of Greentree. Greentree has all the tools and good hockey IQ. He sees the ice well and can make high level plays. He has an NHL shot, wicked backhand, can score in a variety of ways. Great passer. His skating has already improved. He’s a leader and serious about leadership and getting better every day. He’s got a ton of confidence.

He’s on his way to 150+ pts and leading Windsor to an incredible turnaround. He’ll be joining the Reign or Kings after his playoffs. I say he makes the Kings out of camp next yr. Or one of last cuts. He can’t play AHL and too good for OHL. I think best to have him on Kings. At least, if he keeps progressing and is ready.
