October 7 update; Liam Greentree.
I think most anyone that saw rookie camp. the rookie tournament, regular training camp and practices, can say that Liam Greentree looks like a legit, future top 6 NHL forward.
I made it out to California a few weeks and saw the last Sunday practice he was there at TSC.
And a scrimmage. He looks poised and has excellent hockey sense...anticipates the play and can get into seams and also make plays. He has a good shot, as well.
He's now back at Windsor and while they were brutal last year, have started out 4-0-1 !! and are in first place. Liam missed game 1, while in LA. He has 2 goals, 7 assists and 9 pts, plus 6 in 4 games.
5th in OHL scoring...Porter Martone and Micheal Misa are #1 and 2. Both will be top 10 picks this coming draft.
To note, Windsor's goalie Costanza was goalie of the week and their #1 pick, Ethan Belchatz has 4 goals, 4 assists in 5 games...and is 6'4" 230 lb at age 16! He's also a RW and seems that Greentree and Belchetz will get most of the RW minutes. Belchetz is a 2026 draft eligible. At this rate, he seems to be a top 5 2026 pick. I hope he doesn't grow to 6'7" 260. That can't be good, can it?
Liam is 6'3" 215 now and already has NHL size and skills. (his shot, most stated NHL level)
I like that he's captain, has character, good hockey IQ, can make plays and has a camp behind him and knows what to work on, skating included. I would not be shocked to see him *make the Kings next season, out of camp. Turns 19 January 1.
edit: * I am not saying he will for sure, but has a shot and not worried about it, if he goes back to junior. I feel better about him, than ANY King #1 pick after the 19 range (Kupari, Bjornfot, Kaliyev, etc) as his complete package is way beyond any of them. It's mainly the skating, which is not bad at all. Think Glenn Murray said his skating in camp was good. I didn't notice flaws. Probably needs to be quicker, first 3 steps and see if can add some speed. I think his avg / subpar speed showed up at the tournaments, on bigger ice surface. So what, the NHL game is on smaller ice. If his skating was a little better and he had good tournaments, he would have gone 10-15 in the draft. I don't worry about top end skating, for 6'3" 215 lb wingers that are smart, can make plays, see the ice and can compete physically. If he plays another year of junior, so be it. Byfield was probably ready at 19, but the ankle break set him back and he was still underweight / not the man strength he needed to be at.
The OHL consists of 20 member teams, including 17 in the province of Ontario as well as three in the United States, with two in the state of Michigan and one in the state of Pennsylvania.
