GDT: (First round of playoffs)

5 series are already going 6+ games. It’ll be 6 if Jersey pulls out the win tonight. It’s amazing how little killer instinct there is around the league. And a few of these series had their opponent dead to rights too.
It has nothing to do with "killer instinct" IMO. It has to do with all the teams are still really damn good, even though some are much better than others, and it's hard to win 4 out of 7 games in a series in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Lots of parity in much of the NHL. There's a reason why the general consensus is that it's like the hardest trophy to win in pro sports. It also provides some context into what the Hawks did during their run being ridiculously impressive in this day and age.

unless they hoist the cup this year, i'd scrap that team for parts and launch the remainder into the sun. no reason for anyone in toronto to think there's any kind of future for them here. been that way for years, will be that way until further notice.
And Toronto fans tried saying Matthews is better than prime Kane lmaoo

Future Hawk Mitch Marner?

He of the Zero points-4 ladt night?
To be fair to hom Mathews and Knives also both -4 no libts...Nylander and Tavares both -3and zero points..

Anyway coukd Laffy be doing anotger foldo???
If so do we want losrr Marner at sobe gigantic cost as tge "petfect" help for Brdard?

Yes Bedard needs hp..but shouldn't it be a 2 way guy with size who elevates in playoffs not folds as seems always to be Leafing destiny?

You know= a Hossa type.

I’d think most series go 6 or 7 games if someone looked into the numbers. How many series in the dynasty Hawks era went less than 6 games?

2009: WCF loss to DET in 5
2010: WCF sweep of SJS
2013: Minny and LAK in 5
2015: Swept Minny
2017: Swept by NSH 🤮

So 6 series out of a possible 21 series. I agree, it’s not lack of killer instinct, it’s that there’s a ton of parity in the league and it's a hard trophy to win. Besides, WSH and FLA look like they're going to stomp out their opponent pretty easily. I had the Canes beating NJD in 5 and they are. Also, gotta give credit to Ottawa for playing well, the series was closer than the 3-1 record indicated. All the pressure in the world is on Toronto AGAIN which is hilarious. We'll see how $14m AAV Marner performs when his team needs him the most. Matthews too.

Not impressed with the Canes. Half the Devils are in the hospital and they had all kinds of issues with them.
Never have been, probably won't ever be with this core. Slavin is incredible and Aho is very good but they're a great regular season team who isn't skilled enough to win a Cup.

Think this is just the new normal with the recent expansion, which IMO wasn’t needed.

So needless to say I’m also against the inevitable further expansion around the corner.

Expansion will suck. Luckily the Hawks will be out of their rebuild by the time there's a 36 team league and hopefully can feast on this watered down league

went and tallied up playoff series length going back a few years.

conclusion: there is no strong correlation between number of teams in the league and playoff series length. if anything, expansion apparently weakly correlates with slightly shorter series on average rather than longer.
