As I've said many times, pulling the goalie too soon can be a fatal mistake.

No, but it was the reason they couldn't make a comeback with over 2 minutes to go in RS.

My take (when down 1 goal) is a team needs to be thoroughly in control in ops end and even then the coach should wait until about 1:30 or less to go before pulling the goalie. That's always been the unwritten formula until a few years ago when some coach decided to do it earlier and it seems most coaches now follow that thinking.

If your top players are rested with 2 1/2 mins to go, and you are in the other teams end, there is no reason not to pull the goalie. Not only could you control the play better with 6 skaters, you can then call a timeout after a min and rest the players, and keep them out there for the entire rest of the game if need be. Leaving it till the last min or min and a half could mean your top players are sitting on the bench for 1min too long.

I think after last years failure was the time to move a big core piece. Since they didn’t do it then I don’t think they’ll ever do it unless Marner makes the decision he wants out.

Which he very may well do if they somehow choke that series. I wouldn’t want to be in Toronto and under that microscope after that collapse like he would be.
