Man some amazing matchups but I feel for the two Florida teams. Neither of them deserve to get bounced in the 1st round. I hope the NHL brings back the 1-8 format.
An argument we hear every year.

I still like the 1 vs 16 format. Sure there are issues when it comes to time zones and travel but nothing that can't be resolved via scheduling. This year is not as unfair as we have seen in the past but the Florida teams I'm sure will not agree. Every year we see a solid contender eliminated in round one while we get a far weaker team or teams advance to the next round..... and is anyone getting tired of Oilers/Kings meeting in round one? What is this, 5 years in a row?

I wasnt going to watch any playoffs but the blues Jets matchup really intrigues me. The blues play a very similar 2017 VGK game where they are constantly playing 200ft hockey on steroids. You love to see it.

Still remember the entire top 5 teams in the league played eachother in the first 2 rounds of the 2016 playoffs

The #1 Capitals and the #5 pens played in round 2 while the #2 Stars, the #3 Blues, and our Hawks at #4 all played eachother with the first 2 rounds.

Also 2018 the Preds and Jets were the #1 and #2 seeds had to face eachother in rounds 2 while the pacific actually had an easier path to the finals despite the Preds winning the damn presidents trophy.

Way it is set up now doesnt even reward the best regular season teams as it is far more beneficial to tank your way in the standings in hopes of being a wildcard team and face a weaker competetion like New York did in 2017 avoided facing strong metro teams and got to face a much weaker atlantic division

Look at all the very intense rivalries we're about to watch faceoff. None of those would happen with a 1-16 format.

Tampa-Florida. Toronto-Ottawa. Dallas-Colorado. Edmonton-LA. All series you wouldn't get, you'd just be hoping they cross paths at some point of the playoffs.

The first round generates some of the most intense series of the entire playoffs. It's literally a ton of fun every night. You lose all of that with your format.

Counterpoint we are now seeing the Kings Oilers for what is like the 5th time in a row. While it was funny to watch the leafs get creative in finding new ways to lose to Boston and Tampa more often than not we got the same matchups for damn decade now.

IMO Dallas Colorado happening in round 1 is why this format is flawed

I think the Sens are gonna give the Leafs more trouble than most people think.
Yep, the Hawks aren't a great team or anything so it's sorta hard to judge, but you could see just from that final game (against the Sens) how they are able to stymie teams. They have good gap control and do a good job clogging the neutral zone. Would not be at all surprise if they give Toronto fits.

The Kings-Oilers matchup may be boring to you, wherever you are. But to fans of those teams, it's anything but. To them, it's the same as when the Hawks play the Blues in the playoffs, or when they used to play the Wings. They're divisional rivalries, still a big thing to fans.

Unfortunately, decent period for the Blues. They kept the score tied against the President's trophy winner and outshot them. They've got nearly a full 2 minute PP to open up the second.

Weathering the (white out) storm so far.
