New York Islanders: First Press Conference with GM Mathieu Darche @ 11:00 AM

Couldn't have a better first interaction with the media and fans, good vibes
Not to take away from Darche, but it was exciting to see Collins get some limelight as well.

He's a great fit to run the business. This is clearly an investment for Scott Malkin so I am glad he found someone willing to stay behind and keep a pulse on all the moving pieces that are involved with running a professional sports organization.

didn't like that comment from him.
If you watched the presser, the priority was contact with players and their agents + making decisions on the coaching staff.

Those are the pressing matters at need based on what will transpire over the next few weeks (the potential of signing/trading players, coaching carousel taking place). It's much easier to make changes on assistant general managers than it is with players and coaches.

I did, did you....He also stated that

Does mention he believes there are a "lot of good people" already in the Islanders' organization. and that Lou brought in a lot of good people.

Darche needed to clean house in my opinion and if you listened to his presser, his main topic was the minor league system and development. To me, first thing is fire Chris for the disaster he did in Bridgeport. Show that the buck stops now, and let everyone know who's in charge.

I personally just took that as a deflection/fluff because it was clear he hasn't been able to evaluate that area of the organization yet in the six days he's been here.

Collins live has also made me feel better about not having a president. What I outlined in what I want I think he covers.
What I like is that Darche doesn't report to Collins.

He reports directly to Malkin, which to me shows that they have full faith in his ability to run the Hockey Operations side of the business. Not having that extra layer (i.e. Collins) between Darche and Malkin is complete show of good faith in Matty Ice.

I hope you are right....If Chris isn't gone this offseason, I have serious doubts about Darche then.

He had no problem at the presser stating he fired the Coach in Bridgeport though.

Again, watch the press conference.

At 28:00 he acknowledges there is clearly a defined window in which organizations are looking for specifically coaches and that he didn't want to essentially get caught with his pants down so that was his first order of business.

Pierre McGuire pretty much said Stacy Roest is headed to the Isles and his specialty in TB was GM of Syracuse / player development so Fredo's days are numbered .

Pellegrini is a good ''cap guy'' but maybe Darche could want someone younger
Listening to Friedman talk about Pellegrini and Snow and Lou in the past either through words or actions of keeping him makes me want to retain him.
