It helps that the Leafs play a style that gives opposing players a lot of space. Canes didn't need to do much "making of space" last night, but they sure were able to capitalize on it when the Leafs gave it to them.

Agreed, but even so, if that line stays together, McGinn keeps going to the net, and Rask rediscovers his scoring abilities, then Turbo's gonna get more room to work. Would never have guessed it, but that line just works.

Interestingly, I noted that the Leafs had hardly any sustained O-zone possession.

They attacked entirely off the rush last night, just like we said they would.

The canes allowed alot more shots against vs the leafs than they do with most teams. Their offensive capabilities were there, but the canes have good defensemen. Everyone in the league knows this.

rewatching the game for once.

don't see what all the fuss is about with Derek Ryan. I thought he had a good game.
Slavin is a poke check/blocked shots machine. he's also going to his slap shot with a little more aggression this season. he's really continuing to blossom.
Fleury looks really good. people call him a baby Pesce, but in this particular game he reminds me of someone else I dare not mention. let's just say he was great with his stick in this game, with a good loping stride.
TvR had an excellent sequence after the end of the 4 on 4 in the 3rd period. that part of the game is where the tide really turned. not really sure about the face off penalty on Kadri. hard to see the obvious infraction (though the first Leaf thrown out of the face-off was legit)
McGinn had an excellent game.
started to see a few glimpses of the special Aho stuff, not even counting the point shot that Lindholm tipped in. great defensive plays and one hell of a pass that missed a stick by probably 9 inches that would have been an easy goal (forget who).
Darling had a decent game. starting to get a feel for him. his technique is what I'd call "quiet" because he really doesn't react too much to stuff in front of him. kind of the opposite of Ward in that regard. because he's so big, he can get away with it. but when he looks bad, he looks kind of flat-footed as a result. he was content to let a puck hit his shoulder that another tender might have tried to blocker away.
I thought Hanifin looked really good.
Pesce had some excellent moments as well.
I think it was probably good no-challenge on the tying goal in the 2nd for Peters. there was contact with the Leaf player and Pesce but it was legitimate play and Darling was way out at the top of the blue paint, almost out. I'd rather that stuff not get called. it's a different story if he hoists the defender into Darling in some way, or does so in the restricted area.

also Jooris had a really good game (surprise surprise, he had 2 dang goals) but he had several well-executed chip ins.
interesting to see Kruger/Skinner/Jooris on the ice for that 6th goal. textbook board work to settle down possession and then Skinner can probably do that move and backhand pass in his sleep for the easy chance.

it really is striking how easy it was for the Canes to march into the slot, often multiple Canes. probably a big part of why Babcock was so pissed at practice today. you let a team do that to you for 60 minutes, and the next practice isn't an immediate reset of attitude, and that's the place where a coach wants to make a statement like that.

forgot to mention Rask. I thought this was maybe the first game this year where he didn't look like he was wearing the wrong uniform. stayed on his skates and kept up with the play for the most part. really loud smack on his one-timer goal, too.

Cam was on a roll
Person of the week in every Smythe opinion poll
What a pro
Cam could stop a show
Point him at a shooter and you're talking SO
He was a honcho
A hero, hero
Now he's a no one
He's a zero

He was a kid with his act down pat
From zero to hero in no time flat
Hero to zero just like that
When he smiled
The girls went wild with
Ooh's and ah's
And they slapped his face
On every vase
(On every "vahse")

From appearance fees and royalties
Our Cam had cash to burn
Now nouveau riche and famous
He could tell you
What's a Finnish urn?

Say amen
There he goes again
Sweet and undefeated
And an awesome ten for ten
Folks lined up
Just to watch him flex
And this perfect package
Packed a pair of pretty pecs

Wardo, he comes
He sees, he conquers
Honey, the crowds were
Going bonkers
He showed the moxie brains, and spunk
From zero to hero a major hunk
Hero to zero and who'da thunk

Who put the glad in gladiator?
Hurricanes!
Whose daring deeds are great theater?
Hurricanes!
Isn't he bold?
No one braver
Is he sweet
Our favorite flavor
Hurricanes, Hurricanes
Hurricanes, Hurricanes
Hurricanes, Hurricanes

Bless my soul
Cam was on a roll
Undefeated
Riding high
And the nicest guy
Not conceited
He was somethin'
A hero, a hero
Now he's a no one
He's a zero
He hit the depths at breakneck speed
From hero to zero
Cam is a zero
Now he's a zero
Yes indeed!
