Fire Shaw

I could be wrong about this but I think maybe they feel Michkov winning a Calder trophy will do more for their season ticket sales than a top 5 draft pick would and that's what they are trying to achieve.
I think the Calder Cup is pretty much a given for the Canadiens new shiny toy on D.

Trophy not cup but yes, there might be a bias in that direction. Maybe an anti Russian bias too, especially in a year where Ovi gets so many headlines. They might not want it to look like Russians are taking over.

Still though, forwards win more than D men so it's possible. He's clearly a future superstar while Hutson is just a new Gostisbehere.

Whenever I see this thread, I think about how he should be the third Shaw brother from fast and the furious

Comes down to me is who has had the bigger impact on their team is the main driver.

Getting sick of MM for the Calder being stuffed down my throat by Boucher and Jackson. Has me wanting him not win in a way sadly. End of the day doesn't matter in the big picture whether he does or doesn't. Will have zero bearing on any future success of this team. Though I would bet MM has some bonus clauses for winning.

I agree it doesn't really matter and maybe it's even better for the long run if he doesn't win. Might give him a little chip on his shoulder and an "I'll show them" attitude. Celebrini is going to be a very good hockey player and Hutson could stay pretty good but only Michkov has shown these moments of absolute brilliance that imo makes him special. If we can get a good center to play between him and TK we will have one of the top lines in all of hockey.

I like this thread and it’s premise.

It is ridiculous and we could all use some more ridiculousness in our lives from time to time.

To further your point, while I don't think that it should be all encompassing but analytics, especially proprietary analytics are a huge part of today's game. Tortorella has publicly stated that he gets an analytics report after every game but he has no ide what it means. He also has publicly stated that he has no idea how to coach offense. Is this someone that you want leading your team in the modern day NHL? Now add in his obvious character flaws.

As far as Shaw is concerned. He's a chip off of the Tortorella block. He had a chance to stand up for Cam York and he did not. I don't care what York said, Tortorella created that situation and earned it from York. He can go also. Everyone needs to go.

Are you seriously trying to say that Hutson hasn't shown any moments of brilliance? Have you watched every Canadians game?

I think that Boo has a point here. Cellibrini and Hutson are both good players and one of them will win the ROY prize. However five years from now people are going to wonder how it wasn't given to MM. He's at a different level than them. Michkov is truly special. It was a crime what Tortorella did with him this season.

That may wind up the case but right now, it's simply homerism. Offensively, as a rookie, Hutson is just not at the top of all rookies at his position, he's at the top among ALL players at his position. He's 2nd in the league in assists at his position. He's in the top 6 in scoring at his position in the entire league. How is Michkov at a different level? Michkov and Celebrini are pretty much the same in scoring. Michkov plays on a better team. Celebrini plays a tougher position. Hutson is better and there is nothing that I see that makes Michkov truly special while Celibrini and Hutson aren't

As far as what Tortorella did to him. There were certain things done that I disagree with but overall, saying it was a crime what was done, is hyperbole.

To wait on Sullivan and still use Shaw’s D whispering with Drysdale, Andre, Risto, Bonk?

Risto will be traded next year. He likely looks a lot better with Shaw than anyone else.
Shaw is ridiculously overrated an assistant coach. Ristolainen looks better with the Flyers due to playing a conservative defensive first system that mitigates Ristolainen's lack of hockey sense. Once he would go back to a modern day aggressive system, the same warts will show. It's essentially the same and putting a dog on a leash and tying him up and then saying you trained the dog to not run away.

I'm saying everything is relative and compared to Michkov he isn't anywhere near as special. Hutson is not Makar. He's not even Quinn Hughes. Michkov however, is in that top elite category and will be as good as Kucherov or similar players.

Your comments are illogical and are ignorant of basic fact. There is more evidence now that Hutson will be in the top tier of his position than there is for Michkov. Hutson offensively is already in the top tier of his position offensively. You're also conflating situations such as saying that currently Hutson is not Makar or Hughes and then when it comes to Michkov, it will be who he will be as good as in the future. Which is simply conjecture. You have a disease called homerism. It remains to be seen how each player ultimately long term develops. However you have no basis in fact to state that Hutson has not shown himself to be special while Michkov has. As if as a rookie being 2nd overall in your position in assists and in the top 4 in overall scoring in your position in the entire league, not just rookies, isn't a sign of being special.

Lane Hutson will flirt with 70 points as a 20 year old rookie on a league average offense. Are you guys even hockey fans?

He’s matching Quinn’s production through age 23. I don’t know if he will level up to Norris Hughes, but he’s the closest thing there is stylistically. “He’s not the best defenseman in the world — he’s not even the 2nd best” is a HILARIOUS argument.

How is it overrated? Every dmen has looked better with him and worse when they leave. Walker, Seeler, Risto, Drysdale, Sanhiem etc.
