If Torts finds a new NHL job, Canucks doesn't need to pay him right or does he get two paychecks? If Canucks no longer needs to pay him, if you're him, you give up all that money to coach Columbus? Don't think Columbus will offer him anywhere close to what Van gave him. Or for Torts, money isn't an issue and getting another shot to coach in the NHL is what counts?

Columbus would give him exactly what Vancover gave him. The contract is guaranteed. There'd be no reason for him to sign somewhere for less money, especially considering the length of time Vancover signed him for.

In fact, the contract might actually be "traded" per-se. That I'm not sure about though.

Edit: after re-reading your post, I think that's essentially what you were saying.

I would not give up any pick for Torts. If Vancouver lets him go for free then fine he can be a candidate.

I stand corrected. I guess I should have said it's very rare.

Not even sure I'd go with all that rare, certainly not very rare.

On a side note about Richards and the Jackets, as a whole. Eventually you can see when a head coach is out of ideas. At that point it really doesn't matter why he's losing. It doesn't matter if he's a good head coach, what his record was during his time here, if he was presented with a roster that can win, or if the players like him or respect him. It doesn't matter if you make the wrong choice on his replacement. At that point you just have to move on, do your homework on his replacement, and go with it. You can't be afraid of making a move.

While we saw some improvements, there wasn't enough in all 3 zones to think that we're getting closer to turning things around. Sure we might get some wins in, but there is nothing to suggest we can start to put together a winning streak.

Richards didn't project a lot of confidence in his post game, he was rather emotionless. If he's like that in the locker room, that's not good.

I was kind of hoping for a win tonight so maybe Richards could turn this ship around but I'm sold. He needs to go. This team is ****ing up the most simplest of plays. And that is on coaching, plain and simple.

I don't agree. If players eff up on a play that's on them. If the wrong players are out on the ice for the situation that's on the coach. If the system sucks that's on the coach. If the whole situation is effed then it is probably on everyone including the GM.

Unfortunately for HCTR firing the coach is the easiest change to make.

Seven losses to start the season in my mind also is unacceptable. Crossroads. Even if the team's material was lacking in some departments it doesn't bring such drought of points.

Richards's coaching team ideas revert back to the past. The offensive lines in the last game for most part build on ideas established over the last season or prior despite the influx of a more experienced Wennberg or big names like Clarkson and Saad who all could be utilized differently now that the dynamics have changed. Foligno and his captains could also show their value, as only Dubinsky has risen to the occasion.

So an interim to save whatever can be harnessed from this sudden collapse of moral structure and virtues previously known by the team is needed. Could try the Italian model of firing head coach only to rehire and fire him later in the same season if necessary since Richards's methods seem to work best when chasing the line ahead.

Whatever then happens in the short-term could think that the coaching position for 2016-17 at least has opened.

Hello guys long time no see. Been following the CBJs and something tells me today will be the day we will see a huge shakeup in the front office. Question is who would be fired. Will it be John Davidson, Jarmo Kekalainen the GM, Todd Richards the head coach, or could it be all three getting the ax.
I like John Davidson as far as what he has done with the Jackets (and the St louis Blues when he the director there). However he has made some boneheaded moves (Nathan Horton
for example).
Jarmo Kekalainen I don't know much about him other than his results with the Blues which weren't exactly great.
Todd Richards good man but like everyone said he has no passion or anger. Last nights press conference sealed the deal.

Without JK hiring is own HC up to this point, I highly doubt we'd see anything beyond the HC.

I think this could be good for you guys. As long as Tortorella has used his time off wisely to adapt his coaching strategies. and he will at least make the D much more accountable

Todd Richards out in CBJ. Torts in.

As expected...

What about our second living "legend" Craig Hartsburg? ( he and TR have ultimate "record" now, Craig with Blackhawks 97-98 and Todd 15-16 with Jackets)
