Monty is a hell of a coach

That Bs team had no business being as good as they were the past two years

Ulmark and Swayman are system goalies

The roster especially last year and this year is mediocre. They are playing Tyler Johnson in the top 6 and Zadarov (who I like) on the top pair with McCavoy. Apparently Mcavoy all of a sudden is having a terrible year. Z is a 4/5 D man and Johnson is a 13th forward at best

I'm not sure how you can scheme an offensive style, when you have 2 offensive players on the entire team. Only way you are even dreaming of being a decent team is being defense first.
Are you telling me that the players are unable to execute a cohesive forecheck or cycle? Perhaps they can't play a heavy game but they should be able to play positionally sound.

On another note, how many odd man rushes do they have? (hard for me to glean from the highlights)
Not many I would suspect. Why? They don't do quick regroups and when I do catch a game they are often rushing 2 on 3 or 4.

The system is designed to reduce odd man chances in general.

They scored 179 last year, on pace for 196 this year. Last years Sharks out scored us. They’re also out scoring us again this year.

The Bruins have scored 5 more goals than the Hawks in 2 more GP, with much more NHL talent. People think Monty is going to come in here and make this a better offensive team?
Not really.

Their D lineup is basically the same as Chicago's.

In terms of forwards they have like one more impact forward than Chicago. Which becomes equal once Chicago calls up Nazar.

All things considered, their record right now is better than their roster.

Monty also did a very good job bringing the Stars up to snuff before he was removed for alcohol issues.
Actually he didn't. The season after Hitch left was nearly identical to Monty's 1st season. The league standings are what got the Stars into the playoffs for Monty. And when he left, Bowness actually had more success.

He inherited a very good Stars and Bruins team, not a rebuilding type of coach IMO.

What has he accomplished in the NHL, other than failing to get a very good Bruins team past the second round?
Turning around Dallas what kind of post is this? It would be like keeping Eberflus over Harbaugh lol

Most of the bruins talent is on the back end. That forward group is not even miles above ours

I don't even think that B's roster is even that good.

THIS

I keep hearing about how bad Boston has been and how much they’ve underachieved and then I look at that roster and I’m like “ummmmm what were they expecting??”

But even their blue line is extremely flawed because of the lack of mobility. They’re all big and slow.

Their best player is far better than any player we have, their 2nd best player is better than everyone not named Bedard, their top dman is better than ours, and so on. They are underperforming, lol.

Pastrnak, Marchand, Coyle, Zacha, Lindholm

Vs

Bedard, Teravainen, Bertuzzi, Hall, Dickenson?

Lol it's most defintely better, and their blue line is much better.

Anyone is gonna look good forward wise compared to this Hawks team.

Compare what the B's have to any current playoff contender or any of the other B's rosters from the previous decade+ and its incredibly weak. Marchand and Zacha getting old, noticeably a step slower. Coyle and Lindholm are solid 2nd liners but other than that they were never gonna replicate the production they had last season from the group of Geekie/Frederick/Coyle as they all overachieved last season and it created this false sense of expectations for them this year, when in reality they were due to regress. That on top of Marchand and Zacha also losing a step has left them with essentially one elite level forward. They've been used to having 3+ for a while. They were also decimated at the center position by losing Bergeron/Krejci.

Couple this with McAvoy's continued decline offensively, (Hampus)Lindholm's continued overall decline, the fact that they were already overly big and slow...and then added Zadorov. Lost one of their goalies. Its a mediocre roster. Still much better than the Hawks bad roster, but also much worse than they've been in a LONG time. And it cost the coach his job, when none of it was his fault. Just the reality of the business I suppose.

It's hard to gauge Hall because of injury what ifs...

But, Teuvo & Bert I've seen both be much more tenacious on the puck than they have been in total this year. Not good.

And, the scratches? Players are usually coming back worse after a benching beyond Reichel's one or two games.

Also not good.

We're not getting routinely blown out by 5 goals so that's cool. But I still think we are also not getting optimal effort where it counts and you could say the same of many teams. We're also seeing poor deployment choices as well, IMO.

I think Lu was brought in to field the tank while focusing on responsible play so it's hard to say where management sits on this. But, it feels like there's regression yet the team added many minutes worth more of NHL caliber players so you'd expect a higher baseline.
