When will Richardson give Bert an opportunity to play with Bedard on the 1st line? How is it this kid is part of the team's midterm future (at least) and Craig Smith had sniffed the 1st line before him? He's exactly what Bedard needs on his line: someone who is willing to get to the net and clean up the rebounds. And he wont tire out like Foligno. It just makes zero sense.

I'm thinking:

Bertuzzi-Donato-Bedard

Yes, I'm putting Donato as 1st line center. Why not, at this point?

Someone who coaches a team like it belongs in the dead puck era does not belong in the NHL. I hope attendance drops and it affects the owners pockets.

Sullivan would be a hell of a get. His shelf life in Pit has been over for a couple years but he’s a very good coach. I expect Pit to make that move soon.

Monty getting fired would be puzzling. He’s familiar with a number of guys like Foligno and Hall. Bruins have Tyler Johnson playing in their top 6 according to Daily Faceoff but Bs fans want Monty gone? Puzzling. That roster was bare last year and isnt much better up front this year.

So bad roster leads to bad stats as you say, yet here you are complaining about bad stats with a bad roster.
Geez man. I've never complained about the team being bad or being built to lose. I car about culture, style, relationships with players and agents, and setting the stage to develop the new players for the trending future of the game.

We all know it's a bad team who is not going to win.

The underlying numbers match the eye test in terms of coaching decisions, and that's what separates him from the cardboard box I would have him replaced for. Deployment, linemates, possession, 5 on 5 play, entries, etc.

You can pick apart any single stat and pick it apart but when the whole thing says this guy does things most coaches wouldn't do, and then you add that to the results like inconsistency for years now, record losing streaks, more young players lagging than exceeding expectations, etc.

the conclusion isn't elusive.

And yet we still have fans and media firing up the excuse engine for this guy, and management's decision to continue keeping him since money isn't a factor.

"There's not really much we can do." succinctly sums up this guy's coaching ability.
Amen

Get this dinosaur off bench

Just put King in for rest of year and hire replacement in offseason

Hawks under King were light years better than this shit
I have to say no on KIng.

Train wreck for bus wreck after the train already replaced the bus wreck probably doesn't send the right signals.

he is playing 90 style hockey.
And they're pricing apps so you go back to antenna's and cable and bars.
And Only 1 person from management (KD) speaks to the media like the WWW days

Too many arrows here.

If we destroy the time machine before it's completed and Danny fixes the regrets of his youth, we can save the rebuild

There’s lots be does that I hate and I want him gone. Just saying we have a bad lineup with shitty options.

I haven’t watched in over a week unfortunately. Has Reichel really looked better? Does he look like a top 6 forward or what?
Reichel's been a bit better... but the bar is so low right now with this team.

Reichel looks good in his role as of now. I wouldn't change his line or at least keep Smith with him.

Bedard with Kurashev and Bertuzzi. That's what I want to see.
One line with Teuvo and another with Hall.

Bertuzzi - Kurashev - Bedard
x(Foligno) - x(Donato) - Teuvo
Hall - x(Dickinson) - x(Anderson)
x - Reichel - Smith

All that is left is going in whatever combination that's still open. That's what I would go with.

We may see this for 1 game before it gets changed again.

I'll defend the fact that this roster has been awful during his entire tenure and is still awful.

I won't defend comments like he made after last game and I won't defend some of his roster usage. But a ton of coaches have weird fetishes for players. I don't think its unique to him.

I think the biggest thing you can point to is the offensive regression of the entire team even with improved talent. Its a 20 game sample though. If it continues for the next 20 then maybe I'll be more concerned.

In a vacuum, sitting a guy for a game to try to get them going is fine. This lack of communication about said decision is absolutely unacceptable though

What we don't know is how did Taylor Hall find out he was being scratched. I'd be ok with it if he was told by Luke - even if the conversation surprised him. Now if he found out through twitter or some third party and took him completely off guard, that's really bad on the coach.

How Hall found out doesn’t really have anything to do with my problem with Richardson here. If you think a player is struggling (specifically one that is expected to be a top player on the roster), you need to communicate with them. Give them examples of what’s going wrong in their game and provide solutions to fix it. If the issues persist, then you sit the guy. Blindly scratching hall doesn’t help anything

The Hall thing is just funny.

Veteran player in a contract year coming off of a major injury after being sent to hockey purgatory and he gets blindsided by the lineblender and scratch machine.

How does a former league MVP not get a conversation? Maybe Tinordi can reach out and help him out, he always found a way to regain favor, even after multiple own-goal outings.

Richardson just some across as a guy doing his best to hide his emotions over how much he is panicking as he desperately looks for someone or something else to save his skin.

He comes across like a brick to me. Even though he speaks almost exclusively in hockey talk, it still sounds like word salad coming out of his mouth most of the time. He doesn't come across as particularly bright.

I wish he’d show some emotion. Yell at the refs for being ass. Give it to the players for the lack of effort. That would at least endear him a bit.

Instead he sits there completely stone faced. I don’t have proof that he’s a blockhead, but man is he coming off that way.

I mean, he’s an uneducated hockey player. I think we all have experience with those types, and yeah, a lot of them are slow on the uptake.
