As I said earlier, I don't understand what his job is. Is it just to write about his personal opinions? Cause that's what that report was. Write about interviews with players? Try to get sources inside the organization to feed him information?

The line between team blogger/journalist no longer exists in 2023.
Who are you comparing him to? Are there any non-team-employed journalists out there who never opine on the team they're covering? Should he just be like an AI bot publishing a list of quotes after the game and ending with a run-on sentence previewing their next opponent?

Who is the gold standard? TG shared his opinions. Larry Brooks has been doing it for 30 years, so has Stan Fischler. Richard Chere famously called for Lou to be fired. Who should Novo emulate to avoid being called a "blogger" for publishing articles about the team that he covers?

He was silly when he dressed like Santa. I genuinely never understood why he was so beloved online. Reddit treats him like he's an all-time great Devil.

He was a mediocre at best penalty killer. Streaky scorer who needed to be stapled to Nico or Jack to have even the remotest of chances at producing anything. He didn't make linemates better, he wasn't creative or intuitive with the puck, he didn't hit anyone (or even pretend to attempt to hit anyone).

I'm happy he's having the best shooting percentage of his life while playing PP1 minutes and 17+ minutes a game in Calgary. He wouldn't get those minutes here, so who cares?

You said "if you're going to ship away Sharangovich, the roster has to improve". Tyler Toffoli is on pace to score 36 goals, is that not improvement directly related to the trade of Sharangovich?
There is two things going on here. There can be an argument made for Shara vs Toffoli simply by the what they bring to the team. Obviously more goals in a vacuum make team more good. But in a team sport where players feed off each other and work as a unit, having a more versatile piece can make more sense. There is no way to know if the team would have benefited from more flexibility at the expense of a few Toff goals. Does that create more production through out the line up? Again no way to prove. But it's a fine discussion, the people upset by it and demanding it be stopped are very strange.

The other thing is, why is it wrong to like a guy on a personal level who plays for your favorite team? This whole thing at the end of the day is supposed to be enjoyable. People realize we gain nothing from the success of the team other than enjoyment, right? So as great as winning a cup is, enjoying and liking the personalities who play for the team you love is in the same realm. I'll never understand the anger that comes towards people who miss players on this team who were "likeable" but not stars and not "important." It's a game we are watching, we aren't curing cancer based who we support.

So this whole notion, (not just you, sorry it's you who I grabbed on to quote) that things should stopped being talked about because people don't like it, is so insanely strange.

I enjoyed watching Stephen Gionta play, he wasn't great, or even that good. But something about a little dude just going for it every night and giving it everything he had to do whatever was asked of him was fun to watch. Fight me.

This is just.... lame? I don't know what else to call it. I'd wager that 70% of the people in the building don't really care that the beer is over-priced. You're not going to be able to organize a sit-in protest at a sporting event where people are paying several hundred dollars to get away from their life, relax and be entertained.

Calling me a booze-hound because I pay $16 to have a mediocre domestic light beer is cringe as hell, though. Criticizing how other people spend their money is odd.

70% huh? That's funny considering how many people complain about how ridiculous the costs are despite still paying for it. I'd absolutely take the under on that bet.

Have you met our fan base? Half the fans want free tickets or half off face value just to get into the place. If you have had any dealings with our fan base we are a notoriously cheap one.

I don't give a shit how many overpriced beers you drink, the booze hound part is a joke and not that serious and lol at people going to these games to be relaxed and entertained. The arena yesterday was filled with stressed out and pissed off people lol

I'm just talking about it on a forum, I'm not motivated to do anything for this team anymore but 1 game alone would cost them so much money but if most people have your view of who gives a shit then it's like the old saying goes you can't see the forest for the trees.

I really need someone to tell me what's unprofessional about a journalist (checks notes) doing his job.

He's not screaming in the back room of a press conference or taking shots at innocent bystanders. He's saying that Lindy Ruff has not done a good enough job, and he's right.

not to mention a couple of the other beat writers have posted similar articles today.

As someone (maybe you) mentioned- we aren't used to this in NJ because 1) we haven't had these expectations in awhile and 2) our media coverage has been soft as charmin for years.

It shouldn't be as hard simply because it's an easy protest that saves people money in the long run and it's easy to do, eat beforehand or sneak food in. Biggest problem would be all the booze hounds who can't sit for 2.5 hours without spending $16 on a can of beer lol

If more people realized what Atlanta did I think it would be easy to get people on board. It's a topic I end up talking to a lot of people about and the vast majority had no idea.

I'm getting older and crankier, in my younger days I'd get motivated and hand out fliers or make a giant display and stand across the street from the arena, would be funny to see how fast the team would react to make sure I'm as far away from the arena as possible lol
Legit question - have any other teams throughout sports followed Atlanta's lead? I often seem them cited favorably (which I get) but don't really see any other owners joining them.

My gripe with the owners being greedy is less about prices (they'll charge what people will pay) and more about the years long refusal to partner with hardly anything local. I assume that's because they would have to share the profits. Barclays and I hear UBS put Prudential to shame with the variety of local food and drink options.

But this is stuff we're focusing on now because the team sucks and Lindy is still coach.

Of course it's not wrong.

If the discourse was "I miss Sharangovich because he was goofy and dressed like Santa that one time" I wouldn't have replied. Yay, silly and fun things are silly and fun!

But you're lying to me and you're lying to yourself. That's not the discourse. Sharangovich gets brought up -- repeatedly -- because people think that he was an important piece of the team that shouldn't have been traded. I object to that totally and completely.

Sharangovich is being spoonfed big minutes and is shooting 4-5% above his career shooting %

can we stop championing this player please?
I'm just saying he is having a pretty good season , that's all. He wasn't really a core player for this team. He was for 2 seasons then got buried on the depth chart a bit. He's still a useful player though.

No one in mind. I'm not being critical even when i say that the line between blogger/journalist no longer exists. Just I'm not sure the standards of 20+ years ago can even be applied in the internet age. If the goal of a journalist is just "write entertaining copy about the team" then I guess it's fine, sincerely.

I don't know if they still do it but the Baltimore Ravens had and lot of colleges have but nobody in our tri-state area has to my knowledge.

We really just need one team in our tri-state area to do it because it does work and the rest will fall like dominos. Atlanta has found they made more money than ever before on concessions because people get inside earlier because they aren't being ripped off and they end up spending more money on merch. The Red Bulls send me surveys all the time and I've been putting it in there for years now to try it.

It's both, like I said, "There is two things going on here." But if you choose to see only what get's you fired up, who am I to stop you.

Also I never said anything about having a problem with "objecting." That's 90% of the content here. What I object to is the anger that comes with even bringing him up, or any previous player for that matter.

Who's fired up? Who's angry?

My entire post was "The amount of hand-wringing over a player who was a 25-year old healthy scratch for the majority of our playoffs last year is baffling."

Using hand-wringing to describe what is being said but not fired up? I feel like its all equally hyperbolic and fair game.

let lindy ride out the season and step down gracefully at the end of the year at this point.

get a top 10 draft pick, clean out the staff, make some trades and sign some players and come back next season with a chip on their shoulder.

i can’t believe there’s 24 games left and im as uninterested in the team as i can remember. it feels like the mets in august and just waiting for the season to mercifully end.

ive never felt like this with the team. even in the shit years last decade i liked stat watching and seeing the players develop. there’s absolutely no joy in watching this team right now

So blogger it is.

So, Novo expressing an opinion now makes him a blogger? I don't get this argument.

The guy is obviously a credentialed reporter and perhaps the only one to actually ask Ruff tough questions. Do you want him to just be another Amanda Stein and just relay quotes and write team-friendly fluff pieces? Is he not supposed to offer any opinion/criticism and just stick purely to reporting the facts?

Actually, Rich Chere did put out an article about how it’s time for the Devils to fire Lou, right after he fired DeBoer. The article slammed Lou and said it was his mess and he should have been the one to go that day. I’m sure it’s still floating around.

And Rich Chere was a guy who covered the team since before Lou was the GM.

Great memory wow
