All you need to do is look at the EP TJ situation.
If you can't figure that one out without the team internally imploding you don't know what you're doing.

For every foot forward it seems he does stuff for a step back. Our pp has been horrible for going on six games nothing's changed. Pk? The same nothing's changed and he constantly keeps Skinner in just long enough to crater comebacks.

Listening to Gregor the other day, he had Woodley in and they were both smarmy about Schwartz: "fans don't really know what a goalie coach does" and Woodley even said he thinks Schwartz deserved a lot of credit for Skinner "bouncing back" after coming back in with Pickard out.
I would expect Schwartz will continue to evade a firing. If anything, a sane org would let him go due to optics, even if he wasn't terrible. Goalies just aren't getting it done. Gregor and Woodley brought up how the goalies the fans complain about, Schwartz wasn't around but they conveniently neglected to mention Mike Smith and him going to an outside coach for help that bounceback season
There is FAR too much defensiveness from most of the media regarding Schwartz. Sounds untouchable

Didn’t really have a realistic option, with the backup a below average AHL tender. That Hertl horseshit play on Pick got zero media play, which is kind of shocking.

So just do what they always do in this situation and “promote” him. Than go out and find a Goalie Coach that played in the NHL. All the great Oilers Goalie that coach for other teams makes me sick.

Its a Sophies Choice. You pull the goalie you pretty much have to go back to because who else because you don't want to undermine what little confidence there is.
KK would know players are by now unhappy with the goaltending. Pulling Skinner underlines, again, how bad he is, and to the players as well.
KK's fault in this is not requiring the org to go and get an insurance goalie at least at TDL. He had to make some discrete move on that. Maybe he did, but I doubt it. KK is not a boat rocker. But sometimes you have to be.
If you read my GDT comments I detected Stu Shitter going on in first period tonight.
We can't really go with Rodrigues can we? he doesn't convince me either. I would try it. But thats why I'm not a Head coach.

I don't disagree, but I was a little concerned by Knob's very sincere and (far too) glowing praise for Skinner after last series. Did he deserve it? Sure, but expectations should have been more tempered, and am still perplexed by his seeming unwillingness to pull Stu when he looks shaky and is en route to giving away the game. It's not the first time this has happened (and likely not the last). It's one of my biggest pet peeves with this coach, and when I made this thread I actually expected him to put Skinner back in for game 3 vs LA. Thankfully, I was wrong
Agreed that Rodrigue doesn't really inspire any confidence but you gotta give your backup a chance when the starter is imploding.

I’ll never understand why Schwartz is so protected by the media by this team. Maybe the guy is good at prescouting the other teams goaltending (who knows) but he hasn’t made our actual goaltenders play better. Yet he continues to survive multiple coach firings. Doesn’t really make any sense unless the rumours of him being connected to Katz family are true. But even if true, surely you would think Katz would just keep him on the payroll as a consultant or a goalie pre-scout or whatever. Baffling stuff.
I stopped watching after the 5th Dallas goal as I couldn’t watch anymore Smilin’ Stu but I don’t think so. He should have after the 3rd Dallas goal to refocus the team and wake Skinner out of his 3rd period slumber / meltdown.

Truthfully it couldn't have hurt, it is a knock on him, he trusts his guys a bit too much, when last night he should have reset them.
If I recall correctly none of our recent coaches have used timeouts very advantageously. It seems like they want the team to reset themselves which does happen but why not use it when it's there?

Absolutely agreed, the game is tied, things are shifting, use a time out, get everyone re-focused and maybe it goes better. It's a fair criticism of Knoblauch, but it's not "fire him" worthy imo. The players can still bear down on the PK and Stu knows.
I hope he and his staff have a conversation about that, because the slight pause can do wonders.
Oh for sure I am not saying to fire him, just was curious if he did call that timeout after I turned the terror show off and thought this was the place to post it.
It seems to me KK with a proper roster has regained his midas touch with line combos, Bowman added Klingberg, Walman, Frederic and PodK so we are left with the biiiiiiiiig goalie question.

Like, with how it shook out, they really should have added Lyon, Allen, Soderblom(though he might have been tougher to get), Vladar, Forsberg, etc. should have been added to the group, even as a 3 headed monster, to give them another option.

Yzerman traded for Mrazek and they weren't even a playoff team
