Fire Knoblauch

When we were down 2-0 and looking to be out round 1 he was getting heat. 3 games later he is getting praise. Next week who knows what the opinion will be. The bottom line is we have 2 of the best players in the league. McDavid is an all time great, the pressure is on him and the organization to win a cup. You have to keep asking if Knob is the coach to get the team and McDavid to the cup. It’s a very reasonable question, if at some point you don’t think he is you have to move on. If they lose the next 2 games do you consider moving on?

The bar is set at a cup, less is not acceptable. At times I like Knob, other times he drives me nuts. If someone like Cooper becomes available if a cup has not yet been won you have to do it. I think of the Blackhawks getting to the conference finals in 09 then firing Savard for Quenneville.
Agree, last game I hope we saw the Oilers we will see for the rest of the playoffs. Lots of effort, attacking and defending well. But…consistency as always been a major crux for this team. Hopefully there will be no more painful lessons. I would be OK with getting beat by a better team but not by the Oilers beating themselves because they couldn’t adapt or bring their “A” game, that would be on coaching.

And the defects of the team will remain.
Its astounding how many dont get that.

I'm not a Knob fan at all. I absolutely hate how he organized his lineup throughout the Reg season and gave way too much leash to Stu. He also hardly put the other Skinner in a position to succeed even when his game massively improved.

Now in the Post Season, all the way up to game 3 I still disliked him. Thankfully he wised up and is starting picks. He's also meshing the lines like he actually should. For that I'll give him credit. Let's see how the rest of the playoffs go.

It's actually shocking it took him so long to find some lines that work, but here we are so let's keep going!

You make it sound like the coach doesn’t make much of a difference. Obviously there are defects that need to be addressed, coaching can play a large factor in how those defects are addressed. No roster is perfect, they need to make improvements for sure. The system, the ability to strategize, line ups, the ability to get the best out of the players you do have. When a team has the best player in the league going on a decade with no cups you pull out all stops, one or two victories in the playoffs can be the difference and the coach plays a huge part. Knoblauch came close but that’s not good enough and it doesn’t prove he is the guy. He will get this year and next, if the team does not hoist the cup and Cooper becomes available you give him anything he wants.

Can Cooper turn Skinner into a .900+ goalie? Otherwise its all moot.

You guys all seem to forget that the Lightning with a very, very good lineup continually failed in the playoffs until some guy name Andrei Vasilevskiy became all-world Andrei Vasilevskiy for 3 straight years.

The CBJ swept them in the opening round the year before the back to back to back cup finals ffs. He's since utterly failed the last 3 years in the playoffs.

You'd almost think goaltending might have something to do with it. I don't even think we need all-world goaltending to win, just competent will do.

Oh, as for the premise of this thread, no is my answer since I've always contended it's on the players & it's still on the players & no coach can win when they get horrendous goaltending.
