We let Bob Nicholson hold on for too long and he likely costed us multiple Cups by hiring Peter Chiarelli, then Ken Holland, over Bill Zito. Jeff Jackson's dog shit offseason that resulted in Arvidsson, Henrique, and Skinner, while costing us Holloway and Broberg, is a fireable offense on its own. Get out ahead of the oncoming disaster before we make more Trent Frederic type blunders.

I firmly believe Jackson was only hired to get a head start on negotiating an extension with Connor and do some basic housekeeping after the Finals last year until an experienced GM could be found.

Unfortunately, in the precious few months he had unchecked control, Jackson ended up massively bungling his only short-term responsibility- not overpaying for average depth- and then either pushed for or didn’t do enough to stop Bowman from being hired.

We are now facing the end of the McDrai window, and only a series of miraculous moves this summer can make them even slightly better than this season. To then hear that an eight year deal for Trent Frederic is being kicked around means we should probably say goodbye to any dream of a Cup for at least the next decade. We are a team owned by a moron run by morons who hire other morons to coach moronic systems and strategies upon many players who are themselves morons. It’s a true death sentence for the franchise.

If I may add the opinion of a neutral fan, I think the Oilers need to do a mini rebuild and go for another Cup run in a couple of years. With McDavid and Draisaitl, you guys are in too good a position not to have another crack.
But, for the love of God, find some competent goaltending.

And is doing it again by allowing Bowman to sign Trent f***ing Frederic to an eight year deal. This is it, folks. We are not only out of our window but the two morons at the top slammed it closed on their own hands.
20M over 8 yrs would be fine (2.5per)but looks like it's going to be 30M over 8 yrs.(3.75Mper)

There is a better chance of my arsehole growing wings then Jackson getting fired. Whatever you think of him they are not firing him with the team making the finals 2 straight years and coming within a game or 2 of the cup.

if Frederic is signing a 8 year deal, the first number of the salary should be a 0 or 1.
Based on 20ish injured games Tobias, but what about the last decade? High compete/physical guys are not typically high IQ/character as well. Frederic is easily worth 3.5 in UFA, coming off an injury and down year

I promise next season you will own the mistake in this post. If Frederic had been healthy and scored 16-18 goals again, the market would have gone totally bananas. We bought low, and Hf saw the low. Next year everyone will change their minds.

Florida drafted Knight the same year we did Broberg. They used Knight to acquire Jones, who was great for them in the playoffs. We got a 2nd.

Florida drafted Lundell the same year we did Holloway. Lundell centered the best 3rd line the league has seen in a long time, we got 2 3rds and a 5th.

We used those picks for Frederic, and will probably pay something to get rid of Arvidsson who we used the cap space on. We all know how good Holloway and Broberg looked this season.

Ya, fire him as soon as McDavids extension is done.

I agree with some of this but disagree with a lot of it. Yes, Frederic will likely be better next year. He was clearly a half step slow coming back from injury into the playoffs. And he is likely worth 3.5 or 3.75 over the next couple years. But what happens when he’s 32 or 33 and loses that half step again due to age? He will be ineffective. Not to mention when he’s 35 years old. Will he even be in the league at 35? I have time for Frederic and have no issue bringing him back. But an 8 year deal is a huge risk. If they go this route, the contract must not include any no trade clauses and must be structured for an easy buyout.

Jeff Jackson is what would happen if you let an armchair GM take over, and I will say that there was a lot of folks on here and media who were excited by what he did, including myself.

Looking back, ya it wasn't great result. Handing out NMC's is upsetting to hear.
He's not the GM now so that's positive, but he isn't going anywhere.

Has my vote. Jackson dummied the Oilers last summer in a big way.
Ray Ferraro called it out on an interview with Rishaug at the beginning of the playoffs that losing Holloway was a big mistake. Broberg and Holloway were high number one draft picks, and I don't see many of those growing on trees in Edmonton. Although not the most productive players, Foegele and McLeod anchored one of the most successful penalty kills in NHL history. Yes, let them go, too. If I were the owner, heads would roll, but I'm not. We are giving our opinions on a fan board, but these guys are making millions to make bad decisions. Not sure if too much damage has been done.
