Proposal: Fire DeBoer

Pete is a good coach. I would say you have to win a cup to be called great.

Hope he becomes great in June this year.
I was wondering earlier how many coaches have won Cups vs how many coaches there have been. I didn't try and research it, but I'd imagine it's not a big number of coaches.

I'm not on this train. For half the year they were one of the stingiest teams in hockey and Pete's system was a big part of that. He gets a lot out of his forwards and plays young kids in meaningful ways. His special teams are some of the best in the league.

This is on the players and the GM for not getting more Defensive help.
Look where Rantanen is for the final two goals.

I’m at this point as well. Paul Maurice is regarded as a good coach and it took him what, 30 years to raise the cup?

It’s also about who’s up and who can possibly replace him as well. Torts is up, tocchet could be up but think PDB is a better fit and coach for this team.

The obvious people, cooper, Maurice, Montgomery (post personal issues) are locked up so who’s realistically going to be made available that would be an upgrade?

I like Boudreau and I think there could be a fit there but I don’t know if it makes them better than what they have with PDB.

Quenneville is about the only 100% upgrade available currently

Y'all told me I was crazy when I wanted him fired last spring and replaced with Berube - your apologies are accepted.

PDB is a regular season coach with a regular season system that doesn't change in the playoffs to become a "no mistakes" system, which would greatly increases the odds of success. Tampa's two Cups are a perfect example of switching systems for the playoffs. They played the regular season fairly loose and offensively minded, letting their skill players win them games against bad teams. Then in the playoffs, they played a boring, lock-down, capitalize on mistakes system.

Colorado is stumbling their way to the postseason as well, so that series is still winnable. After that though... :dunno:

I don't really get this commentary. This team tasks minimal risks and sits back even more in the playoffs, we constantly just high flip out and take zero risks all the time.. resulting in constant pressure against and zero drive forward.

If we played for even less mistakes than we already do I don't even know how far back in the zone we would sit while getting 3 shots a period.

Why does everyone complain so much about the lack of d-men who can break out? Because those types of players are a necessity in this system. In a more conservative system (like what we saw with Bowness and what Cup winners regularly employ), a forward stays back with the d-men so it's a three man breakout and that forward should definitely be able to make a pass. This does lead to less rush chances and more of a need to dump-and-chase, but that's the adjustment a team has to make in the playoffs for the highest odds to win a Cup.

This team gets stuck in their own zone so much because forwards are either lazy or looking to blow the zone for the homerun pass. In the regular season, it's whatever, but in the playoffs those forwards should be coached to be defensively responsible first and foremost. (Also, having too many soft players who don't end cycles with physicality ain't helping much either.)

You never know. Bowman is back and "herp derp I just got the execs coffee" Chevy never left

Given how Montgomery was handled, I have a really really hard time seeing Nill even giving Quenneville more than a passing thought.

Nill is pure class. Even interviewing Quenneville would be a black mark on his reputation.

If the most talented team in recent memory gets eliminated in Round 1, then it's a necessity. Maybe if they get eliminated in Round 2. I don't know how many teams plan man-on--man but this team gets eaten alive every playoffs by that system and nothing ever changes.
