Posted in another thread, but it seems this is the coaching discussion thread.

In regards to Bedard:

“We talked briefly on the ice and we’re going to try to get together here,” Sorensen said. “I’m curious to hear his thoughts a little bit. He’s one of those guys we have to get him up the ice and get skating. That’s when he’s at his best. We all see what he can do when the puck’s on his stick. We have to get a way for him to get the puck in motion. That’s the biggest thing right now.”
So, the exact opposite of what they've been doing under LR. Good.

In regards to their lack of offense and forecheck.

“I think a lot of times that’s a mentality, so we want to encourage our D to be up in the rush and we did some stuff like that in practice today,” Sorensen said. “We need to get skating here. We have a team that can move and we have some guys that can really fly out there, so try to play to their strength. Just encouraging guys to be up the ice more and defend on the front of our foot with our forecheck and be up versus waiting.”
So, the exact opposite of the pseudo trap garbage LR had them doing. Very good.

“Chemistry is a big part of it,” he said. “We want to try to be patient with some of the guys, but there has to be an accountability, too. If you’re not playing the way we want you to play or not putting the effort in, there are times you’ll have to change the lines because of that. The other thing, we have some lines that are working, too, so we want to keep those guys together. Sometimes when you take a guy off a line that’s working to help somebody else out, that messes everybody up. We’re trying to build some continuity in that area, for sure, but we’ll see how it goes.”
Chemistry? You don't say?? He's saying all the right things, so hopefully he can get this team playing real hockey.

I feel for Anders. It's likely he won't fully install his system until next season so the Hawks will have to stay with Luke's and he'll have to tweak some things along the way.

Sorensen will have only Friday’s practice before the Blackhawks play their next game, a Saturday afternoon matchup with the Winnipeg Jets. He doesn’t have a lot of time to alter systems and do much of anything to alter how Luke Richardson was approaching things as coach.

Sorensen can make some changes quickly and others will need more time.

Firing Luke at this point in the season just signals KD doesn't have a clue what he's doing. For the tank fans does it really matter who the coach is when were supposed to be the worst team in the league until the "rebuild" starts to show results? Last years roster and this years roster are just 2 sides of the same coin nobody is going to fix this mess it's gonna take someone who's actually been through a rebuild to get this franchise back to its winning ways.

Yes, it does matter. For culture, for attitude, for development. It absolutely f***ing matters. You want your young players developing and improving, and you don't want them miserable. Richardson isn't an NHL caliber coach, and it was obvious to everyone. There are high school and college coaches doing a better job than him.

I would expect to see some changes by February, in all honesty. New systems in hockey don't take seasons to implement. These guys have played most systems at some point in their career. You tell them how you want them to play, and they just need to develop the anticipation and trust in their teammates to do it. We already saw their defense getting more involved in the offense today(like any good team at any competitive level anywhere in hockey, including beer league), and they had one practice and a couple days with him. It won't be an overnight transformation, but I expect to see results and a noticeable difference within a couple months.

He was he just got stapled to Bedard last year.
Even while with him this year he is nothing. Definitely worse than I expected by far. I thought he would at least be similar to last year even if he made no progress.

He is on pace for less than half the production and on pace to be like -75. He f***ing sucks. I don’t think what you said can explain why he is this awful.

I wonder if they’ll get practices in during the four nations tournament or if they’ll all just take a two week break.

I hope so. I was looking yesterday and couldn't find any definitive information on it. I know there's a required bye week where they can't, and that week is happening during the tournament.

Wait…. They aren’t allowed to practice during the bye week? I never knew that and just assumed they were getting some light practices in.

It's a mandatory week off between the NHL and NHLPA, from what I understand.

I think there's a similar mandatory break around Christmas?

Gotcha. Would be interesting to see a 30 minute special of sorts following a star player and what they do during the week.

put him at RW and let him get up ice with speed looking for the outlet more, free him of center responsibilities

the most logical reason is Luke stalling Bedard's development and they want Anders coaching some guys that may get called up soon, such as Nazar, but yeah the revolving door in Rockford isn't ideal, they've had their last 3 interims leave Rockford mid-year and now they actually want the club to be a big part of development so they'll need more stability down there after this year

They probably go somewhere warm. Same with all star weekend. There was a video of Seattle’s AS representative last year being told of his selection and he said he’d have to tell his wife that they couldn’t go to Hawaii or where ever.

Dont want to over react to a small sample size but so far so good.

But it is easy to look good when you replace someone inept. It is amazing what boring system Luke had them playing. Seemed not even trying to score unless on a powerplay. When you play not to lose, guess what happens, you lose.

Looking forward tp seeing dpmen initiate offence again. Hope Korchinski stays up

Yeah. I'm not sure it's a testament to Sorenson being good, more than it is a testament to Richardson being completely incompetent. Time will tell.
