Holy crap SiriusXM NHLn radio is just barely listenable when Team Canada is involved. They really need to understand where the numbers are

It's so easy to look at the paper rosters and so those beautiful American Forwards and those Finnish D and assume 10-0. Maybe that happens but I think people expecting blowouts don't remember that most of the huge blowouts you see are at the World Jrs and usually Canada/US beating the shit out of the 10th team in the tournament. US look amazing but Finland isn't the Denmark U20 team about to be crushed 12-0.

I think Finland makes a game of it and drives people nuts.

After the 1st yesterday, people were already burying Sweden and asserting Canada as the champs... went to OT in a great game!

Given the lack of star power on D, I fully expect the F's to be back and helping out. Finn's are great at this!

I say 3-2 US in a close game. If the Finn's had Heisk and a few others... I was picking them. Heisk was a top 3 Fin guy for me and he has no replacement in Finnish hockey today. I'd say him and Barkov are the 2 key cogs in 2026 Olympics.

Hey @Czechboy - I always love your posts here!! I pretty much agree - I think it would be a win for Finland if we manage to make this competitive given all the injuries we've had. But still hoping for the miracle.

I don’t think McDonaugh even enjoys doing it. Wichusen is much better, but at times he bugs me somehow. :dunno: Idk, every sentence kind of starts low and rises to a crescendo.
They should let this Monaco kid call more games, he seems to do a good job in the couple of games I’ve heard him.

Whatever they have to do to keep Buccigros in the sportscenter intermission studio, that’s his gig.

Why is Jalonen not coaching? Would he not be the perfect coach to compensate for Finland's lack of defensemen?
I wish he was still coaching, but he kind of p***yed out and left just before the most important tournaments. It's honestly the one thing I kind of hold against him. Jalonen is deservedly a legend, but his strength has always been getting the most out of Euro players and grinders, not coaching NHL stars, and I think he knows it.

I personally think he could coach Finland's best on best team to greatness too, but we will never see it unfortunately. The bronze medal in Vancouver was our best effort at those during his time.

You're severely underrating Finland here. Defense should be: USA< < < Finland

And 2010 wasn't even that bad. I was only depressed for about 6 weeks.

2002 definitely felt a lot worse to me too, but I was also just a teenager back then. In 2010 I had zero hockey fan friends, wasn't posting about it anywhere online, and also had to go to work right after the gold medal game, so I rather quickly forgot about it somehow.

If I'm the U.S. players, the last thing I want to do is overlook Finland. They tend to play hard and achieve positive outcomes at the Men's Senior level. regardless of the tournament of the quality of their roster. They have a good, not great team on paper but there is enough talent to make things challenging. I wouldn't be surprised if the game is similar to the Canada/Sweden tilt last night. The U.S. gets off to a hot start and then Finland rallies and it's close in the end. The U.S. needs to be disciplined and play smart.

I’m a Finnish bull

Having a depleted defense forces the team to simplify and play tight gaps, isolate opposing wingers in the neutral zone, and keep the puck from having much of a chance at entering dangerous areas. It will be a permeating mindset due to circumstances.

In an event like this hero puck is prevalent but hero puck is not the correct choice. It’s the opposite of getting the puck deep. It works for the absolute elite sometimes; is a very low percentage play. This type of activity plays right into a team playing responsible with tight gaps who can turn the low percentage play into puck possession, sometimes with odd man rushes. The math is so bad for hero puck that it is basically outlawed in the playoffs, but in an event like this it seems to occur at a very high rate.

All it takes is a few snipes and they have the shooters.

I don’t know that they could possibly be considered a favorite in any game but a simplified win condition for the Finns is forced due to circumstances.

3-2 Finland in OT
