Eww. Call the guys by how they pronounce their name. Don't just make shit up - that's unprofessional. Especially for one of the best defensive defensemen in the last 15 years.

Remember when it was “Kovalchuck”but then all the broadcasters switched to “Kovalchook”, and then he said he wanted to be “Kovalchuck” again?

It's 2025. I wouldn't be surprised if you're posting just by thinking into a brain implant that's connected to the in-arena WiFi.

I’m actually a sophisticated Russian bot.

Then the question has to be asked:
"How many Chooks can a Kovalchuk chuck, if a Kovalchuk could chuck Chooks?"

Don't worry, Finland isn't done. They are going to start laying the body more and get Jen all worked up.
Jen ranting with her vision for a nice, happy and loving NHL....

This bothers me to no end too. Our play-by-play announcer for the Coyotes (and now for Utah) refused to even acknowledge that the "HJ" at the front of Niklas Hjalmarsson's name is not pronounced the same way that we say the letter J in English. No effort whatsoever to get it right.
Generally for me it's, if your language has the sound -> lazy, if your language does not -> forgivable.

I think that it's just not very right that a commentator who's being paid to commentate professionally cannot be bothered to look up how the players' names should be said.

Even now, they still pronounce Aho as "Aaho" instead of Aho, but at least it's better than pronouncing his name as "A hoe" like they used to.
