Manner's contract with Kärpät only ends after 19-20 Liiga-season. I'm also pretty sure both he himself and the hockey federation see him as the next coach for the senior team after Jukka Jalonen. It would be awesome to see either Pennanen or Manner.
Same here. We saw it once, and it was a disaster. You don't go to WJC to learn how to coach.I really, really hope the tabloid-rumours of Helminen are false. What would be the point?
Loponen is a very good player yes, I've been bumping his tires on the prospects board. I'll add him.I would think that if you have Puutio on your list, you would defianately have to have Kalle Loponen also there. Apparently he is having a great season in Hermes in Mestis, maybe next year he could be ready for few games in Kärpät.
I would have expected more for sure. I have seen very little of him though. What are your'e thoughts on Henri Nikkanen? Has he regressed this year?

I really don't think that either Pennanen or Manner will be the next coach for Finland U20. Finnish Hockey Federation has stated that it's a full-time job, and both Pennanen and Manner will continue with their teams in 2019-2020.
Very tough task without Jokiharju and Vaakanainen. Having 2 NHL level Dmen was absolutely massive.Kupari and Lundell 1C and 2C again. Good chance to repeat.
Thanks for linking. Loved the podcastA roster for Team Finland for next year's U20 selected by a Mestis GM and a hockey writer:
Sampo Ranta - Rasmus Kupari - Niklas Nordgren
Matias Maccelli - Anton Lundell - Lenni Killinen
Patrik Puistola - Kristian Tanus - Kasper Simontaival
Henri Nikkanen - Juuso Pärssinen - Ville/Mikko Petman
Ville Heinola - Antti Tuomisto
Toni Utunen - Lassi Thomson
Mikko Kokkonen - Anttoni Honka
Justus Annunen
Kari Piiroinen
Jasper Patrikainen
There are reasonings behind that also in the podcast here but it's in Finnish.
Iltalehti saying it's 100% sure that Raimo Helminen is the next coach.

Just read about it as well. We're so lucky I guess...
Raipe needs an amazing coaching staff and hopefully one of those assistant coaches will be the real head coach because I don't see Raipe as the head coach with zero achievements in that role.
Is the point here to save money in salary or what? I don't get it. They should've had a bit more ambition and gun for some big coaching name like Westerlund even if he costs a lot.
As Vesa Rantanen brought up, Tapola getting sacked by Kunlun, even though he was only going to coach there one year, seems to have caught Finnish hockey circles by surprise. If the federation hasn't thought of him in the coaching staff, then it's just embarrassing.

After the disastrous 2012 how the heck is it possible for Helminen to get even a consideration, let alone almost being guaranteed for the position? Do these people have THIS short of a memory? Looks like he might have participated just the right night of sauna festivities, or at least that's pretty much the best guess I can come up with. Why not hire an actual coach with actual (head coaching) experience? Starting to look like the Finish hockey federation doesn't really give much crap about this tournament and only focused on the men's WHC. If Raipe couldn't even get a medal with one of the best rosters ever, we might not even make it past the QF this time around.
