Finding a 2nd LHD for our long-term Top-4.

Keeps Fedorov number from the rafters due to his bitterness, apparently.

What's this crazy talk about the next GM?

Draper??????

Good god. I was hoping this wouldn't be the plan when SY inevitably moves up stairs, say 3-5 years from now at earliest.

But now? The thought makes me sick to my stomach.

Is it Jimmy D that's mad?

I was under the impression it was mostly Holland and a lesser extent the Illitch family.

It's just a guess on my part. With Holland gone that didn't seem to change anything.

Just hearing from Devellano over the years it wouldn't surprise me if he's the most bitter about it still.

I have a hunch when he's no longer in the organization, Fedorov's number will be in the rafters.

It's a thoughtful post overall but I remain skeptical that Yzerman will step down anytime in the next two to three years, unless he's pressured to do so because things have gone wildly off the rails.

Yeah, I find it hard to believe he's going to be pressured. He's drafted well and has a core just about ready to go in Detroit. I've always felt that once it was clear the franchise's window was firmly open that he'd step aside like he did in Tampa, he doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who wants any attention when things are rolling. He came back as a favor to the Ilitch family and I think once he feels the hard work has been done he'll hand over the GM duties.

I just don't see a mini tank as a possibility with Larkin, Raymond, Seider and Ed on the roster. They alone keep us out the Mckenna sweepstakes in all serious respects. I agree though that true rebuilds are not linear and that we will invariably see year-over-year regression at some point (if we aren't seeing it now).

I love the idea though of going super young up front.

Don't like the idea of Draper as future GM unless he gets some experience outside of the organization first.

I still can't believe he left Tampa. Vinik IMO was the best owner in the league. Had to have done it for Marian, it is the only thing that makes sense.

Too long of a post by @Petes2424 to quote here, but I am skeptical of this prognostication. Tearing down the middle-6 scaffold, throwing youngsters into the fire, and tanking for the sake of a faint hope at 1st OA would be a 180 degree turnaround from the strategy of the previous 5 years. For one, while I understand the jitters and anxiety from some fans, I agree with the path we are on. Secondly, I just do not see SY just having some sort of epiphany, saying "oopsie my bad, here Drapes, take the reigns", and failing upwards.

As for offersheets, not seeing it happening. The GMs with potential offersheet targets are just as aware of the Oilers failure, as the GMs with roster holes to fill are aware of the Blues success. Romanovs and Sambergs will be priorities for them to get into the fold.

Without a teardown, we have 2 regular F spots and 2 regular D spots to fill in the offseason (it's probably safe to say that Holl and Gustafsson will be in pressbox/AHL, if not bought out).

To add a few names to the speculation to fill those spots:

Ehlers. Perhaps a longshot, but I suspect the Jets will let one of Pionk or Ehlers go. If it's Ehlers, and Kane isn't coming back, Ehlers would be an interesting UFA target to shore up top6.

Gavrikov. Lindgren has been mentioned, but I am wary of the wear and tear he sustained being the shock absorber on the pairing with Fox. Gavrikov I think is an even better option as a defensive rock kind of guy.

Perbix/Fabbro/Jokiharju. Lower grade options, and also RDs so will move down to the 3rd pair once ASP is ready. But they are young and would be great 4/5D additions imo.

Roslovic. What, another middle-6 guy you say? So, maybe not a top priority, but adding this kind of speed to the mix is very intriguing.

Frederic. Not sure what his ask would be, but tempting to inject some physicality. Can be the 4C and take shifts on other lines to keep the other teams looking over their shoulders.

Looking for "interchangeable" defensemen that can play up and down the lineup is a good idea. I've seen a lot of Lindgren, who has previously been very good in that kind of high level support role, but it's hard to say how much he has left in the tank. A good target if you decided he still has plenty.

I see a lot of Ekblad too, he's mostly cooked. Any UFA contract you lured him here with would be commensurate with a larger role than you'd actually want him to play.

nice thought minus calling ras assmussen. he's a good soldier.

i like berggren too, i hope he sticks.
What does Assmusen do?

-He can't kill penalties.
-He's not a physical presence.
-He's not an offensive threat, at all.

There are 50 guys in the AHL/Europe making half a mil who can be 2 of those things.

What is rASS's value?

Nothing.

It's negative. He's an AHL'er w a $3.2M 3.5yr contract. He brings Nothing to the team. A wasted roster spot. Of which we have far too many.

..........

Same w Berggren. What does he do?

-He's not enough of a threat offensively to play in the top-six.
-He's a negative defensively.
-He's not physical at all.

He's another Nothing. He brings nothing to the team but wasted minutes.
