Finally Taking a Break

yeahhhhh.... in between my post and your reply I mentioned the possibility of giving up Sabres games to my wife and she said, "but we paid for it, so keep watching". So I'm going to exercise for at least a period each game while watching on our 2nd TV. At least I'll get something (hopefully) good out of it. DVR can help me get the workouts in too. Maybe it won't be so bad after all...

Make it like a drinking game. Every goal given up, do a set of squat thrusts. Every penalty taken, a set of push ups. Etc.(ET Cetera, not Et CeTera)

I've reached the point where I didn't even realize there was a game on last night. My care level has reached near bottom. (btw, on that subject, the phrase is COULDN'T care less when you are trying to say you don't care anymore)

Personally, I watched about every game from about 1987-2013. There were college parties with beautiful girls and I would often be holed up alone in a room watching a 'meaningless' Sabres game before mingling. I would even watch a lot of games through the tank years. I was especially invigorated when they brought in LaFontaine and Nolan! I became a season ticket holder right when I could afford it and even hung on for too long thinking they would eventually turn it around. They jerked around pricing last year and it escalated my decision to cancel for good (was already probably done).

I based some degree of personal identity on the team, for how pathetic it is. Im sure people have referred to me as 'that sabres guy' in the past.

The Pegulas have completely destroyed this franchise for me. Even being a season ticket holder, I probably watched 2 games on TV last year and attended 4, all theme/nostalgia nights, each time leaving after 2 periods because I was bored and didn't want to deal with traffic. The season before it was a little more, and a little more before that.

Last night was the first live action I have seen this season. It was awful, lifeless. The players on this team are lacking leadership and outwardly appear not to particularly like one another. Play is uninspiring 100% of the time. It made me angry enough to post about it the next day. It is not worth the time investment to watch. They don't deserve it.

And Im almost to the point where I dont even care enough to complain about it. Its pretty clear they are going with an unqualified, unequipped Kevyn Adams and Ralph Kruger for the long haul. Dahlin will be ruined, Eichel will be gone soon (he is far from blameless). There is no end in sight.

Good Lord man, I'll die of a heart attack after the next back-to-back!!!

Great post! Your observations of that game you saw are how things have been going on a consistent basis for many years now! Think about that!

IMO, the Sabres discussion spills over into an NHL discussion. Most players are now prima donnas, millionaires, and have been told they are special since they were little kids.

And most importantly, they have guaranteed contracts.

Why work for a living when you don't have to? It's been a problem for us for more than a decade now, going back to several years before Ruff was fired.

Maybe then we as a society shouldn't put that much weight and importance on being an athlete or entertainer.
