Do or Die?

The Oil are now the final team to face an elimination game these playoffs. Even the Panthers did vs the Leafs. I still believe.

I will never stop believing, just not in my DNA. I’ve learned to never count this team out, even when the odds are brutally not in their favor, as that’s when they play their best. Gonna be a battle, as FLA is a really , really good team, but I have faith that our big guns and foot soldiers will all come thru, and that Stu will ignore all the hate and channel it into making his own legacy.

If nothing else we have absolutely learned one thing this playoffs and finals in particular. One of the LS d Men has to be traded for a RS. This is going to be Kulak it’s nothing against the player but we need a RS to best utilize our blue line.

I voted die. Don't worry too much though, I acknowledge that we still have a chance and I'm almost always wrong. ;)

Happy fathers day to you as well as the others of HF Oil! I'm going to be a father this December. I get the feeling that this final is going to be some of the last hockey I pay very close attention to for a long time. My wife's pregnancy has been absolutely brutal. Lots and lots of nausea. I had to take her to the hospital after she got in a car accident a couple months back which has made her feel even worse! I've watched very few playoffs games and in a number of instances, I've had to just turn on the radio in the back ground a number of times while comforting her and not watch the game on tv.

Having a new born just changes everything and that's all parents end up being able to focus on. Some part of me is always going to be an Oilers fan but I don't think they'll be a part of myself like they used to be once this season passes... That's why I'm going to be absolutely heartbroken if they lose this. We may never see them come back to the final for a very long time afterwards. Anyway, regardless hockey is just a dumb sport at the end of the day that we all happen to love watching. We have no control over what those men do... We can only watch what they do unfold.

I'm sorry for the big ramble. A cup victory would certainly lift my spirit. Crosby's 09 Penguins and Messier's 94 Rangers got stuck in this exact same position. We might pull this off if Florida doesn't play their best. You never know.
I completely feel this. Thanks for sharing. I get it

No- he has been bad.

CF% 46
SF% 49
XG% 47
SCF% 39
HDCF% 47

That and the rest of the pairs have lost their chemistry and alignment. He needs to come out

How is it relative to the other d men? Those stats in isolation probably aren't going to be all that good, considering the Oilers have been outplayed substantially most of this series.

What did Stauffer say about the Murray-Yakupov draft pick…his head said Yak but heart said Murray (or vice-versa)? That’s where I’m at. Head says die, heart says do. Need the heart to come through.

EDM will need to save their best (two) for last in all facets of the game. Go out there and give it your all. Come out hard, don't sit back and keep attacking. They do that for the next 2 games I really do believe they can win. FYI, I still would rather Pickard start than Stu but at this rate they have had bigger problems.

And they happen to have the best elimination game player ever on their roster

Pts/game when facing elimination:

McDavid 1.64
Gretzky 1.45
And this trend needs to continue this week. We can talk about goaltending, depth, defense etc till we’re blue in the face but the reality is Tuesday and hopefully Friday are legacy defining games for McDavid and Drai. If they wanna go down as some of the best to ever do it they need to drag the team to a win Tuesday and bring it back here. It’d be lovely if Stu could steal them a game or the depth guys come up huge but at the end of the day if 97/29 are not major factors in these coming games I don’t think we’ll be enjoying the results.

Like I said the other day, they have to make it harder on Ratshit and Bentover, but for some reason they don’t. Bennett’s goal last night perfect example. This team is way too easy to score against.

The Oilers PK isn't good enough for them to do that, theres 2 tiered officiating in this series and though the players/team won't say it publicly it's clearly in their heads

Fun statistic for you all: every game 7 in Stanley Cup playoff history was preceded by a team leading the series 3-2 and losing game 6.

Oilers need to get some mojo back, though. They've let in at least 2 goals in every first period so far. That's not a way to win.

Find some of that game 4-6 magic from last year, please.

EDM's special teams were lights out last year and McDavid also went completely nuclear. It really helped against Florida. It's the complete opposite this finals. Their PK and PP is abysmal and McDavid has been very quiet. How they have even won 2 games is beyond me honestly.

The smart move might be 35 year old Ekholm….maybe along with Ardvisson.. Don’t think you can move Nurse. You open up 10 mill in cap space and might actually get something in return…Bouchard has taken the step to show he does not NEED Ekholm
Ekholm looks toast

And in the end they should have picked Jack Trouba, Morgan Reilly, Tomas Hertl, Filip Forsberg or Tom Wilson!

We need at least one of both special teams to be were they were last year to win it all...maybe both...the last games didn't scream confidence... it's gonna be hard on them to squeeze out two more wins...I will believe until the end, but it's really hard to see right now...they seemed lost in two of the last three games... hopefully one of our goalies gets hot in the right time and we are getting some momentum.

I wonder of these guys will learn that you need to shoot the puck and attack the middle of the ice if you want to score instead of meandering around the perimeter.

Anyway I think they're done, they've played like garbage outside of three or four periods this entire series, they don't seem to want it or care.
It seems the decisions in the off season might have finally caught up with them, but there isn't anyone coming to the rescue. They've got two games to play like they're two games away from being Stanley Cup champions. There isn't anything left.

It is odd. We don't seem to have the same intensity as last year. The passion and compete seems gone....

Maybe this game we will finally see it?

See a lot of crapping on Ekholm after he had a stinker. People talking as if he's been awful since he came back.

This is why this place can be such a drag after a loss.

Marchand was inside the faceoff circle and the 3rd goal shouldn't have counted. I hate that the NHL has come this but here we are. Awful product on and off the ice. View attachment 1050576
Yeah it's pretty annoying that they have to redo every damn faceoff and wait forever until dropping the puck, but if Brad Marchand is half way to the dot it's fine I guess.

That said, this happened in the Florida zone. That goal is entirely on the Oilers, not the linesman.
