Prospect Info: Filip Mesar

Just because Lapointe looks like a meathead doesn't mean he's an imbecile.

Also, is a sports forum really the place to make that argument?

You said we were in a different era and you mentioned Bergevin.

Bergevin hired Lapointe and Lapointe is the director of player development. <- this aligns with your chain of thought earlier.

He’s not just a meat head. He’s Trevor Thimens and Marc Bergevin fused together.

So Hutson didn’t get better as the season went on? Hutson wasn’t in regular contact with the Canadiens since being drafted? He had no direction or communication with the Habs until the season started this year? That’s your argument? The same applies to Caufield - he hasn’t gotten better every year? Don’t be ridiculous.

How many top 6 forwards has he developed my man.

Where’s Dach
Where’s Newhook
Roy
Farrell
Kidney

Cole, Slaf? Who else made it through since 2017…. My man

You aren’t even being consistent with your logic. You falsely claimed that Hutson and Caufield don’t count because they supposedly developed entirely in college, but then turn around and try to blame LaPointe for Dach and Newhook - two guys who actually did develop elsewhere. Dach has had two major injuries as well.

And I’m not even sure what Roy, Farrell, and Kidney have to do with anything. All guys drafted outside the 1st round who are still developing. Maybe they make it, maybe not. What’s your point?

As for how many top-six forwards he’s developed, so far we’ve got Slafkovsky, Caufield, and Suzuki - he’s gotten better every single year, and 95% of his post-draft development has been with us; I don’t know how you could even argue otherwise.

It seems unlikely that every development failure and every development success among recent Habs' forwards can be entirely credited to Lapointe.

Too early to say. Reinbacher could never become a NHL regular due to injuries while Hage could have its progression stall and peak as an AHLer. Not saying that will happen (although the injury concerns with Rein are valid) but those guys have yet to play NHL games.

Also it's very hard to judge since the new regime hasn't had a lot of 1st round picks that weren't top 5.
Beck early 2nd round, Hutson late 2nd round , Fowler 3rd round, Florian 4th round.

Lapointe has been bad, what are we defending here?

I think this a standard process in every sport

I can name you a case of a 10 million euro prospect that was thrown under the bus in the Premier league because he took a penalty kick he wasn't supposed.
He's now with another club will probably soon be sold for 25+ millions.

I doubt its Hughe who made the call, pretty sure its Lapointe, Bergevin's hire and Director of Player Development for the Canadiens

Dis guy...dis guy knows how to develop young skilled and talented players??

Lul.

Yet, our drafting record has improved ever since he's been involved in drafting, so....

Weird ad hominem though.

Similar to a guy like mysak who has played much better since getting traded.

Hopefully he figures it out, still young

He had 1 point in 14 games after being traded.

He did much better this year on a pretty bad team where he grabbed the opportunity to have more playing time.

Yes Bergevin hired him but Hugo kept him so... Also he worked under Timmins when he was here while he is head scout right now. He probably has a few good draft players to his resume that we are not aware of.

Are you like his father or something?
I've been a fan of Martin Lapointe for a while. He was a very good hockey player.

If Mesar would train and get in shape like Lapointe did maybe Mesar could play in the NHL one day.

Mesar is too soft, he doesn't have it in him.

The NHL has become a cash grab and retirement center for hockey players and their families.

I have zero respect for people who get into positions just because they’re a friend of a friend.

Lapointe’s hockey career is irrelevant. There’s a bunch of players who had better careers. Damphouse for example.
