Prospect Info: Filip Mesar

Not in the HuGo era. Mesar could be the 1st. Anyone picked after the 3rd round can't be a bust because there is probably a 2% chance a player picked there does anything in the NHL.
What I mean is not every first rounder becomes NHL players. It’s ok for some fans to not have belief when it comes to Mesar. Maybe it’s too soon to write him off but concerns are more than ok. His progression since the draft is far from great. We can always find the one guy who started producing at 23 and became a good 2nd line center, but I can find tons of example of guys sucking since their draft and became sweet f*** all later on.

There's also no reason to send him packing at the end of year 2 if we still have his rights and he doesn't require waivers. Players finding their way later in their career also happens.
For sure some, tons dont either. Maybe if he can find a two way game to his game, I can become more optimist. I just dont see it with Mesar, maybe I’m wrong. Would not be the first time.

Many late first rounders do not play many (if any) NHL games.
A former Habs 26th overall pick was Nikita Scherbak! He did play play briefly in the NHL.
Then again, there are several players picked much later who had successful careers. :)

Mesar started the season off well, got injured and struggled when coming back, but was starting to play better to end the season.

Pre Injury 5 Games : 5 points
After Injury 22 Games: 4 points
Last 15 Games: 9 points

Won't be surprised to see him build off the way he ended the season and play a bigger role next year.

another way to look at it,

14-4-14-18
28-0-0-0

He's going to have to find a way to be much more consistent, not just in points, but he's slowly been showing progress since his draft year, the question is can he continue to progress or not.

True. HuGo appear to have done quite well but it is doubtful that Mesar is a first round calibre player.

Yes I see the alleged Rocket roster here. Could also change if Kappanen is sent down soon.

I'm not sure if Thorpe is eligible to play.

In fairness, this is the best club in the AHL. But it's still unfortunate that Mesar is behind non entities like Simoneau.

Wasn't Mesar scoring at a very good clip down the stretch?

Can Demidov be sent down if we were eliminated?

I'm 99.99999% sure he can't, but I don't actually know the reason.

What does Pleks have to do with Mesar? Pleks in his rookie year in Hamilton was one of our best players on a stacked team.

I dont remember how they handled Plek but did he begin his season from the third line? Was he given looks with the better lines? Or was he given top line duties immediately?

In other words was his opportunities given to him or were they were earned due to high compete and quality work?

Im asking because Beck and Mesar have been treated differently, despite being from the same draft year. If we remember early in the season Mesar had 5 pts and Beck 2 but it was still Beck who was given the looks on the first PP.

So without excusing Mesar’s season. The organisation made it clear that his talents were obvious but he needed to work on his physicality, are they just sticking with their original plan to slowly wait for him to get stronger before they promote him the offensive lines?

Pleks rookie year they had to split the squad with the Oilers, they almost won the calder. He was a 3rd liner if I recall but that was a long time ago.

Mesar started out on the 2nd line but after the injury he struggled and was pushed down the lineup.

can't be sent down just like Kapanen. Primeau and Dobes are the only ones that can be sent down.

he had 4 pts in 3 gms, then 0 pts in 3 gms then 4 pts in 3 gms and ended it with 0 pts in 3 gms.

i see

Mesar was always on the 3rd line with Beck then they gave him some stints on the second line but basically he was playing on the third line with Beck and Davidson while Beck was double and triple shifting at times with with his 1st PP minutes

Beck's line was the 2nd line early on, I have every game on my youtube channel. Beck wasn't on the top PP all the time, at one point they had Condotta there (when he had 0 goals), ABB, Roy, Hof I don't recall him being triple shifted in any game ever.

if i recall correctly there was a PP awarded when the Beck line was on and the 1st PP unit played the whole 2 mins, that's what i meant by triple shift, but i might be wrong

In that case it would be more like offering Mesar(Pleks) but being forced to trade Roy (Balej)...

I still remember many of us being pissed we lost Balej only for hindsight to show that both Gainey and Sather missed the mark in their pro scouting projections lol
I admit I was so mad they took him and not plek or the third being (as remember was the choice of 3 right ? )

I don't recall that, but it would have likely been more in the 2nd half as Beck was on the 2nd PP unit. How they handled the PP was a bit baffling to me at times, especially considering how much they struggled there.

I guess the coach doesn't think so as it seems crazy to me that he would chose a guy that has played 1 game since 11-22-24 and even then he was terrible this year before missing the entire 2nd half of the season.
Well, as we can see - all humans have a bias of some sort.

I hope he draws in and proves his still a very solid prospect.

Houle and Vincent, must be conspiracy. Xhekaj was likely our best player in the 2nd half and he barely played tonight so I don't know what the coach is doing but I would be surprised if he gets in next game since they won although for me it would be a good time as why play Gignac 2 games in 3 days after the guy just played 1 game in the last 5+ months.

You got the road win so they could make some changes but you know how most coaches won't dare change the lineup in the playoffs after a win. Either way he's going to need to put a lot of work in this summer, he's got to get a lot stronger and much more consistent but we'll see as it's up to him.
