Prospect Info: Filip Chytil (Pick #21 2017)

Actually, Chytil would have to play in 8 more NHL games to burn a year off his contract. A total of 9 games would not trigger it. Suspect he'll stay in the AHL unless he really begins to dominate. Only reason I'd send him back to his team in the Czech Rep would be if he could play in the Olympics.

You could say the "Chytil" be on the organization to play him with the top team.

If I was going to pay anyone for hockey analysis, I'd pay Edge and The Hockey Rodent - luckily for me, they're both free.

I see that you live in Nashville. I'm curious as to your thoughts about living there. Feel free to PM if you have a chance.

Man, this guy might really be the real deal. He did look like a deer in headlights in the NHL, though...so I don't want to bring him back up too quickly. Keep him down there. No rush. Let him continue to acclimate & dominate.

It wasn't even 2 games, although I agree with your post.

In just 6 games, Chytil now has the same amount of points he had in 38 games with Zlin in the Czech league. And the AHL is a harder league, too.

Hes getting ice time/he got better/he is playing with better players.

If he can stay around his pace that would be tremendous for the youngest player in the League.

Thats what you'd expect of elite prospects though. They should be making big jumps from one season to the next. As I mentioned a page or two ago, I'd look at Willy Nylander's AHL season in his Draft+1 season as the benchmark for Chytil this season. I think he's capable of that. It wouldn't be bad if he had like .66 or .7 PPG or something like that, but I think he's capable of more, and so far he's showing that he can dominate the AHL at age 18.

The last legitimate prospect we had that played at a PPG level (or close) over a full year was Anisimov, IIRC.

Wasn't miller at a point per game his last season in the A?

He never played a full season in the AHL but yeah in 2013-2014 he was 43 points in 41 games

e: that wasn't his "last" season in the AHL though, he played 18 games in the 2014-2015 season and scored 15 points

Yes, deer in headlights. It doesn't take longer than two games to determine a kid is nervous and not thinking the game in a comfortable fashion. It's OK...he's just a kid and it happens. Just needs a bit of seasoning in the A...a league with a dimmer spotlight where he can get accustomed to NA pro Hockey. Trust me, I'm a Chytil fan...but this is best for him. We need to build the confidence in the AHL, rather than destroy it by installing him too soon in the NHL. He's going to be a beast.

He was essentially a ppg player his last two AHL seasons, as a 20 and 21 year old - 59 games, 21 goals and 58 points.

What makes Chytil's performance particularly noteworthy is not only that he's only 18, but that he's barely 18.

With the exception of Alex Kovalev in 1992, this just doesn't typically happen. Though I would urge caution, the season is still young. Chytil is going to be challenged as more teams view him as a focal point.

Artem did 43 points in 74 games in his first AHL year and 81 in 80 in his second year. After that he made the Rangers. It's a harder league to run up points in now so what Filip is doing so far as barely an 18 year is really impressive. He's taken a real leap from last year to this year.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him get another shot at the Rangers this year but IMO he's probably better off playing the bulk of the season in Hartford. Right now the Rangers are way too much of a mess and I'd rather keep him out of that--build his confidence--give him first line and power play ice time.
