If Fil is out I'd love to see Edstrom in his spot, just do it, don't be all NHL coachy about it and say he hasn't played center in the nhl yet, who cares, he's 100 % better than Brodzinski in that spot, let Brodz play 4th line where he'll be effective as well. Edstrom is the internal answer to the Chytil problem, it's early in the season, get him used to it. Cuylle and Kakko can help by committee to make the transition easier with their defensive play

Maybe something like this, but i still dont think any type of helmet will completely mitigate the chance of concussion, especially in individuals who are prone to them.
Its about the action of the brain bouncing off the inside of the skull and the rates of recovery, more so then the impact force directed from the exterior. Sometimes even a glancing blow can produce a concussion while a full impact doesnt. I've experienced this myself.
The science has gotten better to disperse the energy but Its hard to see any type of protective contraption come close to eliminating the chance completely. The only surefire method is hanging up the skates...

Been a long time since I've bought a hockey helmet; do they have anything in them similar to the MIPS system that is now pretty much standard on mountain biking helmets?

While there can obviously be large differences between a hockey hit and an mtb crash, the impact on Chytil's body from yesterday's sudden stop looked very similar to some of the crashes I've had where I get involved with unyielding terrain at short notice.

Small positive, but wouldn't they have called up a forward if Chytil was going to be out?

If we're talking about hockey offensive creativity/production no Edstrom is not better than Brodzinski. Just looking at last year's production numbers in Hartford--Brodzinski 16 games played 11 goals 14 assists 25 points. More than a point and a half a game. Edstrom played 40 games with the Pack and had 11 goals 5 assists and 16 points. Not bad for a first year bottom liner but it ain't anyway near a point and a half a game. Jonny also put up 19 points in the NHL last year. Edstrom 2.
Edstrom was groomed in Sweden's SHL for the kind of role he's being asked to play in the AHL and NHL. He's showing signs of being very good at that. He's not going to put up tons of points....neither will Brodzinski but Jonny will put up more. Jonny's also a fairly responsible player away from the puck and has often played center in both the AHL and NHL......something that Edstrom hasn't done yet. The best fit if we're looking to get the most production (though we probably won't get as much now because Chytil is just better than not only Brodzinski but Edstrom as well) out of Cuylle and Kakko is Brodzinski.
Pack plays tonight. They have a practice tomorrow before flying out.
Let the player play, get the practice in and then fly out.
For a good bit there before Wennberg got brought in Brodz had played a good sample size for the season, at that point he had been pacing for +30 points over 82 games... that's right in line with your run of the mill 3rd liner. Wennberg was brought in and Brodz started seeing less time again. But given the way Chytil plays, there's some similar elements that Brodz can bring to that 3rd line as well like speed and cycling. He could fit well on that line
But you can't use the NHL regular season to experiment like that! Developing a young player? That's for the off season or the AHL...

You just made me look at my phone, and I will be doggone that it really is at 72%. Hope that is a good sign, because NOW I have plugged it in so Filip and my phone can be at 100%, once again. Dammit, I cannot fathom losing him once again. He has been amazing and getting better with every shift/game. Watching him play has been one of the few exciting things going on lately.

Not good that they are being so hush hush. If it was just precautionary i think they would have said it.
The Rangers were off yesterday. We should learn more from today's practice. There is no reason for anything to have been released yesterday.

The top of the line True helmets featured MIPS. I'm not sure if they still use it in the TRUE Dynamic helmets but I haven't heard of that partnership ending. I don't believe CCM, warrior or Bauer went in that direction but it's been a few years since I've gotten a new helmet
I'm using the Bauer Re-akt 150. It's not a cheap helmet and I have the Titanium cage to prevent rust. Fits well but every head is different and I think finding one that fits best might be more important than the technology unless you're in a very heavy hitting league. For NHL, the list below shows the most popular used helmets. Unsure of the accuracy.
I haven't looked at other players to see if they change helmets frequently, but Chytil has gone back and forth with different helmets. He is currently shown using the Re-Akt 150.

Probably the best we could have hoped for given the circumstances. Seems relatively optimistic if that's their official stance. Perhaps precautionary more than anything which is how it should be handled even if not overtly injured.

This is a bad hockey team.
I feel like it only a matter of time on his career. Being concussion prone and having subpar awareness on the ice is a bad combination. He's had more of these inadvertent collisions than anyone that I've seen.
