Really disappointing that Detroit didn't trade Fiers. Who has been pretty solid despite tasked with a minor league offense as support.

Did well to get some depth/lottery tickets for Martin though.

Those are either two lottery ticket type ptbnl's or a good amount of cash considerations.

Fiers is okay. Still need another because they can't rely on Anderson much more.

What is surprising to me is the Mariners didn't claim him just for the hell of it. They would have been ahead of OAK in the claiming order if this was done over the last 3 days.

because they'd have to burn a roster spot and mike fiers isn't worth that trouble

Eh he would be if their fifth best starter wasn't named Felix Hernandez and their fourth best starter (Leake) wasn't also getting paid a small fortune. Fiers has actually had a really good year, albeit in Detroit with zero pressure. At least he's still pitching in a cavern.

bumping these after reading something interesting on Twitter

So, Fiers was traded on the 6th. Waivers last 2 days. But teams also have an additional 2 days to workout a deal once the player is claimed from waivers. That means Fiers could have been waived midnight on August 2nd.

Seattle had a better W% by .001. lol. So it's possible Seattle did actually put a claim in, Oakland had the priority.
