While most of those picks are too valuable for the return, I think the line of thinking is clever and correct. Ott would be wise to at least approach this course of action even if the actual give and take could be ironed out a bit more.

Teams like Detroit, Anaheim, Oilers and Vancouver are not competing now. They are not in a hurry to fix their cap problems. These teams want to keep their high draft pick just like Ottawa (if they didn't trade it for Duchene...). There's no reason teams other than Ottawa to do the deals in the OP
