The Penguins' failure to make the playoffs for the first time since 2006 is another financial blow to FSG.

Like many NHL teams, they need home game playoff revenue to make a profit and Pittsburgh is a market that historically will not support losing hockey. AT&T Sportsnet will close at the end of the Pirates' season and it appears NESN ( yes our NESN ) will take over the coverage similar to the Rangers controlling TV rights of the Islanders, Devils and Sabres.

The crown jewel is Liverpool FC and they likely will not qualify for any of the big-money championships in Europe.

The Red Sox?

They needed a strong start to the season and so far

Henry’s life will not change one bit other than his mind if he so chooses to worry over what his accountant tells him

Thoughts and prayers I know it’s so hard on him and his group

With a pretty tough cap the NHL more then other sports resembles the concept of the Lion King and the curcle of life

And right now it looks to me like Washington & Pittsburgh time has come as Buffalo Devils Ottawa & Detroit ascend

Henry better get ready to follow his Red Sox model of supply and demand - get those bobble heads ready, and kids skate with the Penguins mascot because they ‘should’ be in bottom half for most of next decade and few playoff appearances

Tampa next

Toronto hinges on Matthews

Bruins will fall back to 100 next season if 37 & 46 leave but still have base in place to not fall out anytime soon

As a huge Liverpool fan I have vented on here a few times my feelings toward FSG. Tough days are ahead for them as the Pens are in for some long years, the Red Sox are in real tough in the AL East and Liverpool are falling behind others in the EPL as FSG refuses to spend anywhere near the other top clubs despite having the 3rd top revenue last year in world soccer. They have overextended themselves, hopefully they sell Liverpool in the near future, the pressure is starting to amp up to get them out.

I lumped Boston, Washington, and Pittsburgh all in the same group coming into the season; hanging on well after the expiration date when they should accelerate on a full rebuild.

2 out of 3 ain’t bad.

The ownership that ended the 86 year curse of the Bambino should be forever beloved in the city of Boston, and somehow they f***ed it all up despite winning 3 more titles on top of that.

And I’m more glad to see Pittsburgh lose at this point than I am Montreal.

They can only move up 10 spots on the draft lottery, so Bettman can’t rig it for them to get Bedard.

You should have

Measure by skill and age of

Top 4 wings
Top 2 centers
Top 3 defense
Do they have a top 10 Goalie

Next 2 seasons they have enough to hit 100 and be a playoff team

I’m still going for 26 year old Hanifin who with McAvoy Linus Carlo and Lohrei who looks legit the Bruins will have their side of the ice at or near top of league in D/G with age and skill in a great place

Pastrnak & Boston should be a magnet for a high end center

DeBrusk is a very good top 2 line wing who can adapt to everything but a tyrant of a coach

Zacha solid second line center but more importantly can play with Pastrnak

Marchand & Hall signed 2 more years

Marchand was vintage Marchand last game - all world

Hall looked great - did not expect how good he played and especially played

I would take a run at Orlov but someone will give him ridiculous contract to save their jobs and not worry about years 5-8

Bertuzzi I would also go after 5 years- elite hockey sense and very good skills - eyes in the back of head and fearless in dirty area

Bertuzzi intersection is excellent

Bergeron is the glue and tough to say how goes

If he’s in Montreal today I’m thinking this is it

They win it all and he walks away it will be bitter sweet

The team will be good and competitive but feel like the Sox without Ortiz

If they do cash in this season and win it all, I think it buys them some slack to turn the roster over a little bit.

It’ll be key to identify the pieces you want to build the bridge around. You’ve got your core guys in place, but what about some of the aging veterans like Marchand?

Is it more important to keep the DNA of the team in tact or get what you can in a trade while the value is still pretty high?

Not being sarcastic or anything. I just don't follow European soccer closely so I genuinely want to understand how Liverpool "refuses to spend" and is top 3 in revenue but have overextended themselves?

It just reads a bit contradictory.

What I meant is that FSG now owns 3 major team sports franchises and in the case of Liverpool and to a lesser extent the Red Sox they can't or won't spend what's required to keep up with the big boys, money ball worked for awhile with Liverpool but that no longer is the case. Furthermore last year Liverpool was 3rd in world football in total revenues earned yet they spend like they are a 10th place team in their own league. In other words they are very very frugal and they need to sell the team to owners who have ambition and actually care about the team.

I wish for nothing but the worst for FSG. They don't give a crap about the fans and will keep running things into the ground until it starts to hurt their own pockets.
Pretty much- they are carpetbaggers who view these teams as investments. They’re not fans. If they’re winning games they’re not gonna go over the top with spending to win a few more. And they won’t buy talent unless their investment is starting to lose value

They’ll spend but only to an extent these days. I do think they’ll target Ohtani- but that’s because I think they view him as a safe investment (they’ll make that money back by penetrating the Japan market). Has nothing to do with improving the team, that’s just the side effect

I appreciate the 4 rings in baseball. It’s incredibly impressive that they’ve won so frequently with the Sox/ended an 86 yr drought and are still widely disliked in the area. Speaks to how out of touch they are with fans imo

nailed it. When big money is involved they don't want to know "how many more wins can this guy get us" and instead they want to know "how much revenue will this guy get us"

They want to charge people like they're a high end restaurant and then serve you McDonald's quality food.

Henry’s pens failing is hilarious
Couldn't happen to a nicer group. The sox suck as well, Thank god they play at Fenway park or the place would be empty

its ok, the NHL has a generational talent ready to be drafted to save Pittsburgh from being moved once again!

(balls rolling).... Miraculous! the Penguins win the draft lottery!
is that even possible?
