Another Olympic injury: #CBJ D Fedor Tyutin will miss 2-3 weeks because of ankle sprain suffered while playing for Team Russia.

That puts a crimp in the playoff push.

Don't like that news. Might make it more likely we seek a vet shut down over the next week. Otherwise Prout, Golo, or Erixon gets the nod obviously.

Here's the rub.

It's apparently a short term 2-3 week injury but they are close enough to the cap they can't really acquire anyone of significance without giving up something in return.

I say one of the clump of 4th liners is gone in a minor trade for a D making somewhere in the ballpark of 1 million per year.

The question is who would be appropriate? This might be a situation where a rental is appropriate. Is Douglas Murray a valid option? Expiring contract, making 1.5, and has playoff experience. Was a deadline pickup by Pittsburgh last season before signing a 1 year deal with Montreal.

I say flip Comeau for a draft pick, then acquire said veteran D-man for a draft pick. I keep coming back to Tallinder, but he might make too much.

Hate this. Really bad news. The only thing worse coming out of the games would have been an injury to Bob. Seriously, a hurt Nik or even Arty isn't as big an impact to this team. Our PK is taking a hit with this one.

Douglas Murray? That guy makes David Savard look like Erik Karlsson. He's more of a punisher than a shutdown guy, there is such a thing as too slow to shutdown.

If you want a defenceman who is actually better than Dalton Prout or Tim Erixon it is going to be costly, its not something you acquire for a 2-3 week fill in.

I'm not too worried. Tyutin's perhaps our best, but IMO we've got a lot of guys who are almost as good. More than enough to fill in.

I agree. Just bring up one of the guys we have in Springfield. This is the reason you have 8+ good defensemen in your organization.

Outside of Bob going down, this is the worst news that could have come out of the olympics for us. 2-3 weeks would have been fine in November or December but in March...I hope the NHL wastes no time in their announcement of not sending players in 2018.

I don't know much about him but he also seemed to be the only D in the salary range they could afford that has had any sort of decent career. Quality guys that cheap are probably relatively impossible to come buy.

I do ultimately think that they aren't going to make any rash decisions to impact the long term plan and will ride Erixon and Goloubef and Prout for the rest of the season. However, this injury ultimately could be something that kills the playoff run if those guys don't perform.

Even though these are "playoff" games coming up, I think it is time to ride our depth while Tyutin is out. I have confidence that our depth on D will come through.

This is great news. Prouter/Erixon/Goloubef are all better options anyway

Ride it out, see what happens. At the very least it will give us a chance to evaluate another one of the kids on the big stage and see how strong or weak we actually are.

This is karma hitting me. I was saying to someone at work I hope everyone going to the Olympics that plays for the Canucks gets injured because it would be funny. So far no one from the Canucks are hurt. Tyutin gets hurt for us. :help::(

any interest in these players?

Mike Weaver age 35, $1.1 cap hit and soon to be UFA
Tom Gilbert age age 31, $900,000 cap hit and soon to be UFA

Panthers are in a sell mode

2-3 weeks from when he was hurt last week? 2-3 weeks from now? 2-3 weeks from next Thurs.? If it's 2 weeks from last Wednesday he only misses 4 games.

I'd like to see a healthy Prout get a chance, he was really good last year and never quite recovered from his injuries. From the accounts, he's healthy. We need that physical presence back there.

And I'm done with the NHL players going to the Olympics, it was cool for a little while, but it's time to let the amateurs play. Russia and USA not even getting a medal shows they aren't fully engaged like the college and Jr. kids would be. If they want some international competition, go back to having the Canada Cup or World Cup in the off season, that was some great hockey! Shutting the season down and risking players getting injured is not worth it at this point. I didn't see anyone that wasn't previously a hockey fan talking about this Olympics, the games were on at 7am during the week for the most part and didn't even make the NBC main network. It's not benefiting them any longer.
