GDT: Feb 25: Flames @ Capitals [5pm MT]

Feels good, man.

Vladar was great tonight. Huge win against one of the best in the league.

One of, if not the biggest win of the season, against the best team in the league, in their barn, to slide past Van into that last wildcard spot. It doesn’t get much better than that y’all.

Our D really brought it tonight. Arguably the tightest defensive game the Flames have played so far this season, and it’s probably no coincidence that it was with none of Barrie, Bean, or Miro in the lineup. I absolutely loved our pairings tonight. It’s like night and day having Bahl in the lineup. It’s crazy how heavily we rely on him already, but he really does do it all out there for us. Massive first game back from him. Solo is playing with a ton of confidence, on both sides of the puck. No reason to send him back down now. And how many times was Razzy willing to step out in front of that Ovi clapper? Mental.

They really laid it all out there for Vladdy tonight. The only goal that made it past him was a bad angle shot he could actually see all of, ironically enough.

I know I shit on Backs a lot, I know he quietly does a lot of good things for us night in and night out (i.e. killing penalties), I know the guys play for him, and I know he’s a leader in the community and in the dressing room, he just seems like a captain for us everywhere but on the ice. Maybe I got spoiled with the two other captains we’ve had since I started cheering for the Flames, but just once I’d love to see Backs come through with a big hit, a big goal, a big block, a scrap, SOMETHING to indicate he still has a pulse. Especially down the stretch here.

Yuge win from the guys, hope they can keep it rolling in the Sunshine State.

Huberdeau in his career year played with Bennett and Duclair in EV. 2 very good players don't get me wrong, and Bennett in particular is one of the best in terms of the style of play he brings. But I don't think either are "elite". One could argue Kadri is around the same level of player as Bennett.

Panthers during the Huberdeau years were a high risk high reward offensive team that got a lot of their offense off the rush and in the cycle . Obviously the options Huberdeau had on Florida were better (esp on the PP). But it's also a stylistic difference imo.

Even now this year, Huberdeau is constantly in front of the net planting himself in front of traffic .. that's not really something you saw much from him as a Panther.

And just to make sure my memory wasn't deceiving me, I skimmed through his goals in 2021-22 and most of them were in fact, from distance or in tight from a rush chance.

He still played half the year with Barlow and racked up more than half his points.

Apparently sometimes being a smart ass is... smart. :laugh:

I honestly wasn't expecting it, just wanted to throw some good vibes out there.... I'm disappointed that my pain meds kicked my ass and turned my pregame catnap into a 5 hour snooze and made me miss it.

Thought Pospisil had himself a very nice game tonight. Vladar also very solid good for him. Solo really moved the puck well when he had it, kind of get the feeling he's seen the last of the AHL 🤞

Ah yeah. Sucks to sleep through an effort like that one, but hopefully you're doing alright.
My lady had surgery late last week so she's off for two weeks w captain Petey at the helm. The pain has been fast and furious. We're in Dilaudid country over here.

I hope she heals quickly, and I hope it doesm't cause you to overdo things...

for me, it was because I had to do bunch of walking yesterday and take some stairs (had to meet with a new dr since mine is retiring and I was lucky enough to catch a clinic accepting new patients and naturally he sees his patients in the basement... the low ceilings, small rooms and no windows are great for my claustrophobia and anxiety :laugh:) and a flight of stairs usually has me barely able to walk for several days now. Days like this I have to stay in my bedroom all day because it's closest to the bathroom
