It's where Nolan really started pushing the soundtrack volumes way above the dialogue volumes, and additionally stopped caring about mixing/mastering the audio for typical theaters (although his issues are still present even in high-end theaters). The issue got even worse on Dunkirk and Tenet (with the dialogue all but indecipherable in both of those), but the issue was very present on Interstellar. It's a deliberate choice by Nolan, but that doesn't mean the choice is automatically a good one.
Buzz around the film Interstellar, the Christopher Nolan-helmed space saga starring Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway, hasn’t been particularly positive when it comes to the sound mix.
The soundtrack of interstellar being so amazing and keyed in at the right moments is one of the reasons it's the best film for me. To me it was perfect. Absolutely perfect. And I am not alone thinking that.
Most comments on any scene from interstellar on YouTube are keying in on the fact that Hans Zimmer's music made the scene and was even better crushing loud in Imax.
Particularly the tsunami scene and the docking scenes, comments on the soundtrack making the scene 10x better are prevalent
I'm glad to see the Prestige getting the respect it deserves.
To me, it's the most well balanced out of all the Nolan movies. Beautifully shot, the storytelling and pacing was easy to follow, and the performances were great.
