Player Discussion Fabian Lysell

it was nice watching him get his first goal. It really looking like he is getting more and more comfortable and hope he gets a legit start at the team next year the one thing is he has to get stronger and tougher imo. But think the kid is still going to be a player

Well hopefully he works his ass off in the offseason, and comes to camp in September ready to go nd wins a job in camp.

Seems to me the light switch turned on for him. Be interesting to see how he returns next season, he may be on the brink of being a full time NHL'er.

It looks to be all up to him and how bad he wants it.

You nailed it, let's see how he approaches this offseason that will be a tell about this kid. You can have all the talent in the world, but if do not put the work in, well you know the rest.

Not liking hearing him say he will go back to Sweden this off season. You would think he stays here and prepares.

Well I would not expect him to stay in Boston for every day of the offseason. Certainly all players go home and visit family when the season is over. That said, he could do this, and then choose to return to the US or even Canada to train. And honestly I have no doubt that there are places in Sweden where players train super hard in the offseason, if he chose to go there. Wherever he spends the offseason, he needs to recognize he has a 12 month a year job, and spend 3-5 hours a day training, because many of not most of the people he will be competing with for a job will be doing that.

What makes you think that he hasn’t worked hard?

He hasn't really had good camps, nor has he had good starts to his season. Is it because he hasn't worked hard enough in the offseason? Who knows.

He definitely should stay and train. And the rest of the team should consider doing the same thing. This team seemed out of shape to start the season.

Well of course, but they are ALL going to take some time off after the season. They always do, even the nutjobs like Chara did. They are people, not machines. Their bodies and minds need some recovery time. If we hear that Lysell decides to spend his entire summer in Sweden camping and boating, then I guess it would worth some concern, but I don't see any reason to make a mountain out of a nothing at this point based on a comment that he will be visiting his family over the summer.

This team needs another fitness freak like chara. It’s a game changer.

why did you take this from hook's post? We really need to move away from making definitive statements that aren't there

Hook didn't say he hasn't, but the implication of the post is that each next step will be harder and there's a difference between working hard to get where you're at vs the next step in your career and what level of rigor that will take. After that, there's another gear a player can take to get even better, guys like Marchand have been able to do this and go from being what you thought they were to elite.

So, Lysell will need to continue to work hard, and in all likeli-hood he'll need to work even harder this summer to take the next step.

This is generally the main thing that separates talented players who bust from ones that make the roster and continue improving year to year, and answers the question of "why did X player bust?" more often than not

I never viewed Lysell as a bust and don't think he will be, but he needs to take the next step this summer because his skill set is top 6 and he wont be able to use it if he doesn't continue to progress in a positively linear fashion.

Anyone watching him the last few games should have faith he will

To be fair, there have been a lot of criticisms of Lysell on this forum that are based on pretty flimsy evidence. "Character concerns" come to mind, and also last summer he spent in Sweden and that apparently was a giant red flag for some, though there were never any reports that he partied his life away and came back to Providence with 10lbs of beer fat and an bad attitude. He probably trained in Sweden if he's like most other professional athletes. Anyway, I think the reaction is fair based on all the shit that has been heaped on Lysell around here since he was drafted.

what I have liked in the last few games I`ve watched him is I only saw 2 fly bye`s, the other times, while he may not have won a puck battle or forced a turnover, he at least forced the opponent into making a play, progress for sure
